Vanity slots question.

I don't really see the point of a vanity system that doesn't allow you to (appear to) wear what you want. So what if a THM wants to look like they're wearing full plate? Or a PLD wants to tank in a bikini? That's the whole point of vanity system. If I can't stick that battlemage robe on my DRG i'm gonna be upset

Like no bikinis supported, but you can use the level 40ish bikini platemail for vanity. Or Cloth can not be made into Plate, but Plate can be made into Cloth (which is the direct result if you can mix and match anything you can WEAR on a class).

In any case I really hope they allow bikinis since it was something everyone got their hands on cheaply. If they force us to use alternative items, I can see the bikini and shawl set being grinded by half the community and the queue being 5 hours to enter. (And the items on the AH being 500 000 gil each). It is NOT a good idea to create a choke point for the vanity people want.

Why would everyone wear the coliseum set or bikinis anyway ?
Of course some would, but everyone ? No.

Id rather wear my Odin / event sets or those two lvl 15 and 32 unique sets over these two anytime, for immersion's sake id say.

I really hope they go back on the no seasonal thing. I agree there's no point in a vanity system that doesn't let you wear what you want, that's literally the point of a vanity system! It's not like people don't already do "serious" things in the bikinis anyway. My first time through Praetorium the tanks were in cascadier outfits - honestly it made the run more fun because everyone was joking around and relaxed. Why restrict the vanity system when people do it anyway? What benefits does that bring?

I'd imagine the restrictions will simply be 1: Must be an item the class/job can already wear, 2: No seasonal items. Otherwise I'm going full reindeer suit.

In WoW you just payed an npc to change the appearance (item wasn't consumed), with it being free to change back.

I hope they go with a RIFT style of vanity.

For those who don't know it, you have several Wardrobe sets you placed armor into, then you selected the Wardrobe set you wanted to have showing, and it displayed whatever gear was in the Wardrobe slots.

I will never repeat this enough times : DCUO style system.

Every time you equip a piece of gear its "style" gets added into a style tab and then you are not forced to keep the actual gear you want to display. Just select it through a menu serving this purpose.

Extra stress on servers you'd say ? Pffft, DCUO is on PS3 as well and handle its 500+ different styles perfectly fine. So why FFXIV couln't handle hm... 30-ish ?

I am thinking that what you will be able to use as gear for vanity, will be restricted to whatever your class/job can use as stated by the gear itself. You wont see Gladiators and Marauders wearing robes because they can't wear them, same thing with DoM and actual armor. Makes sense to me and still leaves a wide variety of vanity gear as well as options.

I do hope they include weapons in the vanity slot. Otherwise I'll never have a reason to use the LR:FFXIII gear, ever, once I level all my classes beyond a certain point.
