It could also be something like the CHocobo Companion armor, and you might only be able to select appearances from items in your Armoire etc... We don't know HOW the "Vanity" Name tbd system will work, as they have been very tight-lipped.
@ Ufufu can you post a link to your claim? I don't remember any such Dev Post like that. Also 'Extra Slots' could mean anything from more items to an entire page just for display equip.
We do know they are working on Racial Mannequins we can dress to see how the armor would look on other races.
I hope they go with a RIFT style of vanity.
For those who don't know it, you have several Wardrobe sets you placed armor into, then you selected the Wardrobe set you wanted to have showing, and it displayed whatever gear was in the Wardrobe slots.
This is all I could find at the moment, pretty sure they've said more on the topic, but just reading that, the plan is to change the appearance of the item itself, not slots.Q: In a related question, will higher level race-specific gear be implemented?
A: We don’t have any plans for the start of A Realm Reborn, but we’ll definitely look into adding such gear later on if there’s enough demand.
Also, this may be a bit early to share, but there are plans for a vanity system called “katagami” (dress pattern) that allows you to adjust your appearance. Say your role is a tank, and you like wearing your artifact armor, but prefer the stats on your Darklight gear. In this case, you can change the appearance of the latter to be like the former. I’m not sure yet when this feature will be ready. It’ll depend on our progress.
RIFT vanity worked really well
can only hope it's like that
Wouldn't it be possible to:
- Move gear on specific item slot : Equip it
- Move gear on character display : Vanity it
?
The only information they've released that I'm aware of is that classes won't be able to equip stuff they wouldn't otherwise (so no blms waltzing around in full plate mail).
If you have a different source, though, that has more information, please cite.
Honestly, though, I don't see anything BUT a separate slot working on XIV given the nature of the items, and how many of them are 'special' blue armors that aren't supposed to get blown up in some transmog-like vanity synthesis. Unless theyre going to make most of that stuff non-vanity, in which case the system goes the way of dyes and everyone ragequits.
I'm aware of this coming up in discussions about additional equipment types (like quivers or something), but never in relation to vanity slots. Do you have a source?

Yes.
and:I believe that the vanity slots that we are planning for patch 2.2 will come close to addressing this request. We do not have any plans to make it so you can completely separate the setting of cosmetic gear and gear with stats.
*The difficulty is, as this would increase the amount of information transferred for each character, we'd see additional stress on the server.
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ty#post1552811The previous request asked to have separate equipment slots for cosmetic gear in addition to regular equipment slots. We will not be implementing a system exactly as originally requested, but a system that does fulfill the goal of displaying alternate equipment to what is worn.
I just hope this won't end with hypocrite systems.
Like no bikinis supported, but you can use the level 40ish bikini platemail for vanity. Or Cloth can not be made into Plate, but Plate can be made into Cloth (which is the direct result if you can mix and match anything you can WEAR on a class).
In any case I really hope they allow bikinis since it was something everyone got their hands on cheaply. If they force us to use alternative items, I can see the bikini and shawl set being grinded by half the community and the queue being 5 hours to enter. (And the items on the AH being 500 000 gil each). It is NOT a good idea to create a choke point for the vanity people want.
