Bringing this back up because people are still asking for an auction house blindly.
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
This has been polled so many times most notably in the official poll by SE.
Result is always s the same overwhelming majority wants an AH and SE hasn't lifted a finger to give it to us. Sure when 30 players ask for a skimpy bikini then they give in to player wishes but when it comes to the substantial stuff they've all but ignored us on this matter.

Overhaul the market wards.
It requires too many steps and too much time to search for an item, then buy it.
They fill up. Seriously, if you want us to like MW over AH, you can't limit the amount of retainers, wtf. If you are unwilling to change this, at least remove the tax credit you get for being in the proper ward, if we're unable to place on in that ward! What is fair is fair.
It also takes a good 5-10 minutes for any item you place in there to register in the item search.
Market wards are a poor attempt at something like an AH. Sounds good on paper, but in use, it's pretty bad and cheap.
I also think that combining the data of all cities into one pool of buy-able items would be great especially for the half dead servers. There's just no stable economy happening when there's usually only one of the weapons available that you'd like to buy.
...Is there a "Help save Gridania" option??

Barely anybody uses Limsa and Gridania wards anyway. Ul'dah is already the place you go when you want to shop. It's going to stay that way until the game population recovers.
Items are somewhat scarce because the player base is extremely small.
At the same time though, most things are available, and they are very cheap because there is so little demand. It's a great time to stock up on stuff like crystals, or future gear.
Seriously, I got an eyepatch for like 7k, and two sets of spiked knuckles for less than 12K, and that was for both pairs. Those are both absurdly cheap deals.
The hardest things to find that shouldn't be hard to find is cheap lowbie gear, but then again all someone would have to do is shout or ask around in Ul'dah near the aetheryte and people would hook them up.
Markets wards are functional and most of the game is not even done yet so I just don't want SE to spend any time on the wards.
I haven't logged into FFXIV since october 2010. Lacking of AH is one of the main reason I do not want to play FFXIV.
What, IMO, MW really lacks is convenience. Time taken to zone, search and buy is being added up by having multiple zoning locations. This in turns make searching a pain staken & time consuming task. In FF11, I would probably take 5 mins to get what I want. In FFXIV, an hr no less. Just because we need to find the right location, right item and right price.
Whether if its called AH with bidding or MW price buying, it comes down to convenience for majorities. What I want to see is no need for additional zoning, a central location and unify sell/buy system across cities in towns where I can walk up to, Click once, pop a list or do a search, select and buy. All in 5 mins and 5 clicks or less. If you can do that, you will definitely satisfied most players. More specific features can be implemented at a later stage.
