Bound =/= Binding So why the heck can't we sell the item?

It's to avoid re-selling and clogging up the market of crafted armour/weapons and tools.
If people could simply re-sell things once they were done with them no new ones could be sold essentially.

This is an annoying yet necessary restriction.

I haven't tried but can we resell to NPCs?

There's NO difference between 1% bond and 100% bond. This is nothing more than a headache. I think I should have the freedom to at the very least donate equipment to new players.. instead I'm stuck with equipment costing nearly 300k gil.

Yes you can sell to an NPC. More profitable is finishing the spiritbond and converting it if it's convertible, since certain materia can sell for decent amounts.

What you mean is spirit bound. Character bound is 0% or 100%. It is character bound in the moment you killed something with the gear equipped.
Spirit bound just show you if you can change the gear in materia or not.
