I don't personally experience much, if any, slowdown with the retainers, but the reason it can be a little slower to pull up retainer inventory etc. is because unlike your character inventory and armory chest, the retainer inventory is not already loaded before hand. When you log your character in it automatically loads up your entire inventory and armory chest because the game needs access to your gear and items dynamically for things like gear set swapping and use of items in crafting and from hot bars.

The retainer inventory is only loaded each time you call your retainer and your items need to be quickly delisted from the market board as well so the "lag" you experience with the retainer is the time it takes for your client to send the request to the server to open retainer inventory, the server to delist your marketboard items, and then the server to actually pull your retainer inventory from the database. The more stuff you have stored on the retainer the longer that will take especially if a LOT of people are pulling up their retainer inventory at the same time as a server can only retrieve so much information at the same time. This is likely why they're adverse to increasing the Armoire storage ability as whether it's retainer or Armoire it's pulling from the same database so it's an increase in server side load regardless.

Look at it this way. In FFXI you have immediate access ANYWHERE to 320 item slots if you include equipped gear. and that last 80 was only just added (likely because the declining server populations made the load bearable for the servers). RIght out of the gate in FFXIV we have immediate access to a combined 399 item slots. Your Mog House gave you access to an additional 240 slots (Safe, Locker, Furniture Storage). In XIV the two retainers combined are another 700 storage slots. This is on top of the fact that shards/cyrstals/clusters store in their own separate inventory, and this game doesn't require a million gear swaps.

What it really boils down to is for the player base there will NEVER be enough storage because as soon as you add more storage people will just packrat until they're full again and ask for more. From 8ish years playing FFXI I know this very well. People would use up the inventory on every alt available on their FFXI account plus sometimes completely separate accounts (for dual boxing) and whine for more inventory...

    Bring back Gobbie bag quests!

I know......no one wants to hear another "bring back something I loved from 11" post, but seriously.......gobbie bags were the bestest and I wish someone would bring that back. They can make them really hard or complicated or expensive, whatever, I'd be willing to do them for more space in my inventory.

Got all jobs to 50 and I dont have inventory problems.

Just need to remove all the useless materials & gear you dont need once you reach 50s.
For people leveling everything up at once it causes problems.
Some crafting classes dont use same mats so you can toss some of them. Also try to sell junk. Some items you maybe holds only worth 6gil because you can buy them with npc prices.

Because of shared armors. Good luck with 80 gear storing your 70 old gear (maybe you will get rid of it, i actually love most 70 armors). Did i mention myth/allagan armor per class, stored, every class, accessories included?
Armoire would fix everything, i will never destroy 70 gear because lacking space.

Which MMORPG did you develop? I'm interested in playing it and seeing how much better, successful and "limitless" it is since all it is apparently is simply changing a value, no programming, no assets needed and nothing to add in the game itself.

Why would you keep gear that you are never going to wear again? Just keep the best for each job and ditch the rest, it's not as if this game has situational gear. Personally I have most things at 50 and one of my 2 retainers is almost empty and used exclusively for selling things on the AH.

Altogether you have 717 spaces for storing things, and that's not including the Armoire. How can this not be enough?

Also, undercutting is normal. If people are undercutting to the point it's cheaper to vendor? Buy it and resell, their loss. But otherwise, normal undercutting, is normal. You don't get to control how much people pay, if others want to sell for less, or sooner.
Multiple crafting classes with crafting gear that hasn't been spirit bounded yet. Do I throw them away? I still can use them when I level another craft, add that to all your DOW jobs, seasonal crap, and you can get over easily.

Undercutting is normal but in this game it's redonkulous.

No idea why players even defending how horrible the inventory system is in this game. I don't have to take that long sorting in any mmo I've played.

And this is why Certain MMOs are always increasing the available inventory and bank space in their games, as well as give means to expand inventory beyond base slots. It is not a strange thing to expect the same from XIV.

People store gear for more than just looks. Especially as we know a vanity system is coming, folk want to hold on to gear they have because they like the look of it. Though many people, myself included, would hold onto this gear regardless of the presence of a vanity system.

We're not all mechanical utilitarians, and it's ridiculous to expect people to be.

Of course FFXIV will expand inventory it's just typically it only happens with the launch of new expansions where there will be a large amount of new gear and items. The devs will choose when is best for adding extra storage BECAUSE people can and will fill it up and ask for more the very next update. We've been given plenty of space for what we have in game at this moment. They're expanding the Armoire for 2.1 which should allow for hoarding of the new gear in 2.1 just fine.
