    So, I'd like to thank everyone's comments so far. I'm working on a somewhat major revision to my current idea so far, stealing several ideas from Duelle and a couple ideas from Kitru in the process, because you two have really good ideas on this stuff.

    For those of you who don't want Corsair to be a "Gambler with a Token Gun", I'd like to remind you that, like with a Bard and its songs, you don't necessarily need to use the dice. They're there for support, and otherwise, you've got all your stuff from Musketeer to toss around. Otherwise, I'm keeping the 'gambling' mechanic. I'm sorry if you're disappointed in me on that, but as I said at the very start of this topic, nothing here is official. I don't work for SE, nor am I some sort of "Contractor" or something for designing new classes and jobs for them. I'm just a regular player, posting what I'd love to see. And that includes Corsairs tossing dice to help their allies.

    That said, if you have your own ideas on how you think Musketeer should be built, what kind of jobs it should get, and what weapons and armor it would use, by all means, post them. You can post them here, you can make your own topic, or you can post them in someone else's topic if it's related to the subject. I honestly would love to see what everyone believes SE should do with Musketeer if/when it releases the class. :3

    That's like saying that you don't *need* to use any of the abilities that a BLM gets (none of which are essential but most of which are quite useful) nor do you *need* to use any of the jumps that a DRG gets (for the same reason).

    Like I said, I fully expect COR (or whatever MSK's job is going to be) to be a DPS class with support capabilities in line with how the BRD is designed. I just really hope that they don't just turn the class into the ARR version of the Gambler just because that's what FFXI did. If they *did* make it a gambler, I wouldn't *not* use the abilities (that would be like a BRD that refuses to use their songs; it's hurting the party by not being willing to use all tools at your disposal), but I really hope that they *don't* make the support abilities work like that just the same. It's not just a question of what mechanics I would enjoy playing/using (the whole "random benefit" doesn't really grok with how I like to play the game because it's trusting the RNG to *not* screw you over by giving you the bad buff), but also a question of the devs not going with what would be a *much* more compelling and interesting/expansive job/design just because of what FFXI did.

    Random buff/effects that aren't bad.
    1. Offensive secondary stat buffs (increase Crit/Det/Speed/etc). They're all good, but not so overpowered to be upset you didn't get the one you want.
    2. Randomize the length of the buff (1-6 minutes depending on the dice roll)
    3. Random number Damage attack. Which is really not that different than what happens currently. The average number is the same, the ability just has a larger range between minimum and maximum.
    4. Shield buff that absorbs between 1-6 attacks depending on the dice roll.

    The trick is to make the low value acceptable and the high value awesome, so that even if you get the low value it's not that big a deal. (obviously ignore 6 hits is a bit much, but it's just for examples)

    I just thought of a buff too.
    Loaded Dice: 90 second cooldown, doubles the result of the next dice roll.

    It's pretty obvious that they're going to be going with a piratical theme for the Musketeer (based in Limsa, Merlwyb is a pirate admiral and is one, the boss in Pharos Sirius is a pirate), which is why most people think it'll be Corsair (well, that and Corsair just sounds cool). Other piratical names could be Buccaneer and Privateer, though I think Corsair still works the best.

    they could make a commando class that off shoots the musketeer just like how arcanists has two jobs. it could be a tank. either that or make lancers and dragoons tanks since gridania lacks them

    Limsa from what I gathered is moving away from pirate-y things and becoming more like a police state. They still have pirate allies but the bulk of their stuff done by their organized navy (the Maelstrom).

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

    I dunno. The culture is definitely piratical even if the government is moving in a more authoritarian bent, though I think that it's less "police state" and more "enforced civilization", since without a strong authoritative presence, I doubt a city of pirates, privateers, and other rogues would be able to do anything for the collective good. Merlwyb might be a military dictator, but, as far as I've been able to tell, she's been a benevolent, even if draconian, one. Of course, I think the draconian and militaristic bent of her rule is just as cultural as it is practical since she's simply applying the tenets of maritime command, which were historically *incredibly* severe, to the city as a whole.
