if you're not actively playing I would think at the very very least is against the spirit of the game, if not abusing the macro system.
Are you using additional macros aside the ones provided by SE? (i.e. from gaming gear)
If you are then yes, it'd be a bannable offense.(so I heard atleast, some ppl got banned for it? -shrug-)
Thing is that if you are not really playing, it would at the very least border botting, because you're using an automated "system" for it, however if it's using in game macros and not abusing any exploits then it would just be meh, wrong, doubt it would be bannable tho (unless it's extremely abusive, again).
I would say anything that uses in-game tools and features is not cheating. Unless you are using third party macros like mouse macros, thenyou are entering a very dark grey area
Using in game macros is okay, however absentee play isn't.
http://support.na.square-enix.com/fa...=68216&id=5382Using third party programs or tools in FINAL FANTASY XIV is strictly prohibited since they allow users to gain an unfair advantage over other players. The use of programs or tools within FINAL FANTASY XIV that allow certain continuous actions to be performed automatically are often referred to as absentee play, which is also prohibited in FINAL FANTASY XIV. Additionally, during the course of an absentee play investigation, players may be requested to respond to or comply with a GMs instruction. Failure to do so is consider a violation and may result in disciplinary action being taken against the account
Definition of "absentee play." from FFXI
http://support.na.square-enix.com/fa...&c=0&sc=0&so=4Basically, absentee play means that the player leaves the controller unattended for a long period of time while the character is doing something. The player needs to be able to react to anything that happens to the character during the game. If characters can be made to do things like mine or fish while the player is away, the game will be thrown out of balance. Players who have been engaging in absentee play will be reprimanded by the GMs. If you leave your game for any period of time, be sure to turn off any macros you have running. Please not that macros provided with FINAL FANTASY XI, such as AutoRun and /follow are NOT considered absentee play.

A macro that allows you to farm while doing dishes would probably lean towards absentee play or I just I haven't figured out how to do that yet, at least not safely anyway.![]()

A macro to do the things you describe wouldn't be possible with the in-game macro feature as they're limited in length. That means you must be using a third-party tool of some kind which is already a bannable offense on its own regardless of the fact what you suggest is essentially botting.
this happens so much in balmung![]()

Ah, but will facing north-by-northeast at 2:45 a.m. while the moon is a waning crescent result in a 27% increase in your chances to synthesize HQ mythril ingots!? That is real the question! ~Fernehalwes~
if you have macros that allow you to watch an entire movie, and gather fleece without paying attention to the game...that definitely sounds like cheating.

Even if your still sitting at the PC, using third-party macro software, is still bannable.
And yes, this also includes the macro software that comes with certain keyboards, such as Logitech G15 and G19, so be carefull with thoose.
