Craft Leves in 2.0 Noob questions.

    Hi doodz,

So I been playing for a few weeks now, I've explored the majority of the combat side of things. Now I want to try some crafting but I am completely lost.

    Noob/Obvious questions:
Leves in 1.0 used to provide materials and now in 2.0 they do not. So how do I complete the leves if I don'T have any mats required?
Do I have to buy/gather it all?
    How do I initiate synths?

I appreciate any tips and tricks for getting started.

    Thank you!

Um, well, sometimes the leves will give you crafting materials once you complete them, but not all the time.

You need to have the mats. So you need to buy or gather them, yes.

I'm not sure what you mean by "initiate synths." Press N to bring up your crafting window.

It isn't quite as bad as it seems from a material standpoint. The first ques they ask you to make a single item and I'm pretty sure they start you with some material. Armorer for example I think gives 30 copper ore.

The long and the short, you need to gather now. All things to 20 can be purchased from the guild supplier and many things can be purchased on the market board for a gil each. I think you will find the 2.00 material system is better in the long term. Shards I won't get in to. You will figure it out in due time.

Thank you very much for the advice! So I finally got in to crafting working carpentry and alchemist along side botany. I gotta say wow, crafting waaaaay easier and is ckinda fun compared to 1.0 version of craft system.

To anyone else thinking of crafting make sure you use gathering class along side of your crafting! Amazingly easier to progress.

One more question to anyone else who knows. As I am crafting, is there a way that my recipe automatically take my HQ materials instead of me having to manual click the HQ ingredients per synth?

    Thanks doodz!

I really would like to be able to auto use HQ too, Booski.

Most of the time I throw NQ away in the field as I am gathering and only keep HQ. Even when I know I can HQ from NQ I gather in HQ. It might be an RP thing, whatever but yea, the part that drives me loopy is insert. Most times I need to spam it to get it to take with the sluggish reaction on the UI and it takes more time than the crafting.

Ksenia, too bad you're not on my server..and/or your servers economy is in the toilet. Most NQ gathered mats on my server are 100/g each or more depending on what you harvest. what I generally do is before I start a new harvest tier I market check everything. Then I know what I should be harvesting. For instance I just finished the walnut teir of my btn. 110g per and like 300 for HQ. I wouldn't be chucking my NQ for 100each. Just made 50,000g by leveling 4 levels on Walnut.

As for OP. Later on in crafting it will require materials from most every class. IE. To complete a higher level recipe you'll need something from Botony, Something from mining, maybe leather from LTW. So doing a gathering class along with your crafting class WILL HELP but leveling a crafting class to 50 is definitely a money sink. I highly!!!!! recommend watching the market boards and once you can guarantee a HQ each time of whatever teir your in, check out what sells for decent price and mass produce some of those to aid in your money.

Shards were always my money sink. Too tedious for me to harvest my own shards so I would end up buying 10's of thousands in shards.

Aww man, so I gotta manually click each individual HQ ingredient for my synth... That is soooooooooooo mind-numbningly annoying hehe. But thank you for clarifying Ksenia.

    OH SNAP!

Dood, I never thought of selling the NQ mats I gathered. I must'Ve trashed four stacks of NQ Gil Buns for Hi-Potion triple turn-in leves! I figured: "Who the eff is gonna buy the NQ when the HQ is so easily harvested?"

    *Face Palm*

But yeah thanks for the tip Githiun.

Well I have some more noob questions. So I delved deeper into crafting over the weekend. I got all my crafts to atleast lvl 15. So I got lotsa cross skills. Unfortunately, some of them don'T seem to be very clear to me as to how they work or when to use them.

Does anyone have a guide for the mechanics of all craft skills?

I found many guides for some HQ crafting but none explain to me what the skills do.

Are there any good macro setups I could make for grinding?

    Thank you.

Here's a quick rundown on all the crafting cross-class skills: http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/1n56n8/

The success of a macro depends on your Craftmanship, Control and amount of CP you have. At low levels, the values of these can vary wildly, hence, it's up to the crafter him/herself to create his/her own macros for grinding. People only post macros here for very high level crafting, when they all have the best gear possible.

However, here are some things I've learnt while leveling my DoHs:

    1) The cross-class skills I use the most while I was leveling are Rumination, Manipulation, Hasty Touch and Tricks of the Trade. This is because I use them in the Hasty Touch method to HQ items.
    2) Basically, I only use Hasty Touch combo-ed with Steady Hand to increase Quality; this allows me to save all my CP for durability-restoring skills and Steady Hand.
    3) I prefer Manipulation over Master's Mend because it's cheaper and restores the same amount of durability. I don't use Waste Not unless the craft has only 40 durability. On crafts with 80 durability, I use Manipulation over Waste Not because Waste Not can be wasted if I use Tricks of the Trade or reapply Steady Hand in the middle of the Waste Not buff.
    4) If you're lucky, you'll get a Good condition lots of times. Always use Tricks of the Trade when this happens.
