    Why does SE hate youtube?

I'm relatively new to this game, only a lvl 40 white mage, and just recently started reading the forums more often. One strange patern I've started seeing though has me genuinly confused. Every time someone posts up a video from youtube or any other video host be it a funny movie about the game or someone showing off a good instance run, I always get the same message. "This video has violated copyrights for squareenix and has been removed. I have yet to find a single video linked on these forums that has not been deleted due to copyrights.

Now correct me if I'm wrong but aren't community videos usually a great way to promote a game and keep a community alive? Why is squeenix going out of it's way to ensure that as few people see videos about their game as possible? This seems counter productive to a game's success and has me scratching my head.

My guess is their residual copyright stance from 1.0 when the game was so terrible that they wanted to limit the damage of negative videos.

According to Square-Enix, you're free to upload footage of FFXIV, as long as you're using the music from the game. If you put your own music in, they're free to say "No, you can't do that" and take it down.

    They really like their music.

well regardless of what they think or say, there is something called fair use. One of the qualifications of fair use is that if the work is transformative enough than their copyrights are not violated. There is a 4 step process for determining fair use that courts use. This is why things like fan fiction are usually legal. Youtube just makes it easy for false DMCA claims to run rampant.
    http://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl102.html

Section 107 contains a list of the various purposes for which the reproduction of a particular work may be considered fair, such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Section 107 also sets out four factors to be considered in determining whether or not a particular use is fair.

The purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes
The nature of the copyrighted work
The amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole
The effect of the use upon the potential market for, or value of, the copyrighted work

sorry copyright abuses get me going.

Are you talking about the emote Lalafell video? I don't see how having a video of a glitch can positively promote the game and keep its community alive.

I'd even go as far as saying that people doing the emote glitch should get suspended.

Wow lol. Wonder if voicing over counts as "not their music".
