ORthe repair system force me to
chase Guild mates to repair my gear
or
I need to go afk for 1h @ uldah in order to some1 10% chance that will repair my gear for a tip.......(i usually tip well but anyway somedays , i can go afk for 1h come back and have reapired 0 items)
with the population LOW , and nearly no1 want to craft (boring as hell) , the repair system fail because the game fails even more
FFXIV doesnt have a huge population , and a few % have a crafting over lvl 10 , so yeah.....only a few can repair the gear.
If ffxiv was full of ppl , and crafting wasnt boring ....
you put your gear to be repaired on your retainer when you arent online
only takes a minute or 2 to do so, and you wont have to sit and wait for it that way...

^ +1 on agreeing with it just not doing so hot.
This is a game where like pretty much every other MMO that combat is the main point. Crafting and gathering have always been a side activity and not the main focus, yet this game makes it almost nessicary for everyone to do something they dont want to. Crafting should be what it is, to craft...aka: create. Im not sure why they need to force it into everything, like story and such. Games like FFXI needed crafters to make gear, but ti didnt feel like it forced it upon every person to do it. If you were a maxed out crafter in FFXI, you could rake in money and people came to you and were willing to spend top dollar for your product, but of course crafting was not easy or quick in that game, so anyone who put the big effort into doing it were few and well know (and like i said, they made the real moneyz).
This game everyone and their grandmother can craft...and basically for free if you waited...so there really wont ever be any big name crafters or people that we constantly go to for big projects...because there will be so many...noones very special.
Anyways like the guy above said, its a huge pain now, especially with the mostly dead community, but even with a buttload of crafters, its still just a burden for the sake of being a burden. Some people act like crafters have so little to do, when they not only make gear, but the materia system alone (if it dont suck) will be such a massive boost to them, repairs will become almost pointless (money wise)

i absolutely hate the inconsistencies with the repair/condition system, Me and my LS have almost completely agreed that you gotta be 10 ranks below an items optimal rank but I managed to repair my willow wand are CRP R8 which is 14 ranks below.
weapons you use wear out quicker than clothes/armor or other weapons, especially the Anathema (~20-30 fights before it gets damaged)
'United we stand, Divided they fall'

When I was crafting and some parts soloing, repairs seemed quite frequent.
And while I'm not completely up there yet, I've gone from rank 25 to rank 29 without needing a repair as a Marauder with party play (leves only, no behest). No gear damage icon yet. And after I update my equipment, I may not need the repair yet. Something seems very different, as I recall repairing more often than this before. But perhaps optimal rank and favored discipline are factoring into all of this that could be slowing my decay too.
Prior to this, I let the repair system dictate what classes I would focus on. I would find gear that could be used by multiple classes, I think Tabards and Kecks for instance, so that I only rely on Weaver to repair most of my armor, and a blacksmith or goldsmith for my weapon.
i am not sure if someone thought about this.
But i think the repair system should stay and introduce alternative method to repair the items. i agree with some players that it's a bit annoying waiting for someone to fix your item or search for ppl. This is sort of income for the DOH and if we reach to a stage that the market flooded with items, Repair system will be the only good method for income.
Dev team should introduce new methods, for example i can utilize the tasks list/NPC for player to submit the item with the reward (gil/item) for the repair, or even to synthesis the item if it's possible.

The repair system in this game is retarded. Just imagine end game content...
you are in the middle of a raid instance which is timed, and your tanks gear starts to break, he is nearly useless, and you have to stop. he trades someone else in the raid items, has to put the item in his bazzar, they fix it, time has been wasted, and slowed everything down greatly. Its just stupid IMO.
I do agree with the OP too. I leveled to 20 in a day. But i couldn't repair the shit i used to resell it till i was 30 like a week later! There is a massive inbalance in leveling speed/crafting speed for the application of player based repairs, And yes the NPC is a massive rip off. Im pretty sure no one even goes near that guy unless they want the ghetto crafting buff.

Maybe I'm being a bit optimistic, but if you don't want your tank's gear to break during mid-raid, then he/she should avoid going to a raid when their gear is nearly broken. Since the gear degradation changes, it's nowhere near fast enough that your gear should be breaking in the middle of an instance unless it was already red. If this is really an issue, just bring a few repair mats with you - there's a good chance that someone there can simply repair the gear.you are in the middle of a raid instance which is timed, and your tanks gear starts to break, he is nearly useless, and you have to stop. he trades someone else in the raid items, has to put the item in his bazzar, they fix it, time has been wasted, and slowed everything down greatly. when the raids come out, go in fully repaired, dont go in damaged and then complain you didnt make it without damaging

i hope Dev team have a look on the repair system.
Simply removing repair system would be difficult for the Dev team, but providing the Dev team with idea/workarounds to improve the game experience (i think this is the main propose from the Forum).
Every player opinion is valid but to remove/include something rather than adjustment, will require players vote. if you think that the repair system should go and a lot of players share the same thing, start new thread and ask ppl to vote. This will get Dev Team attention.

Just get rid of it. It's stupid and very unwanted. Excuse my childish comment, but that's just how I feel about it.
However, if they absolutely MUST have a repair system in place, make it so we don't even need material. The Dark Matter system was a step in the right direction
