My point is that Gladiator is too vague for a 'tanking' class to me. The term can be used way too broadly, and Paladin is more core to the idea of a protector in Final Fantasy.

If we actually are waiting to see something like Paladin in an advanced class in a broader picture, then I can withhold my comment. But in the available classes we have right now, that is simply my opinion.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

This is true, however being that there are only 6 starting classes, for any group xp until they release new classes, Gladiator is the most logical tank.

Gladiator: A tanking class with sword and board is a defender, a paladin, etc. Not a 'gladiator'
That might not be completely true though.

Gladiator in my system could easily accept Thief, Ninja, Warrior, Paladin, Red Mage, Dragoon, Viking, Soldier, and a mariad of older Jobs. Gladiator is just a sword user any job that used swords could use it as its base class, but again in my system any job can be attached to any class.

Sorry no in a interview they said they have two ideas

1:Tree-base PUG become A,B,C class and it more of a hybrid.
2:unlocked jobs like FFXI PUG become A or B Job and you set to that job and what it does.

Square einix should do version 2 allow us to unlock new jobs within our class this give us more of a uniques to our job and they can give us Gear that look for our jobs like FFXI monk, samurai, red mage, black mage.

This way we could have artifact armor for our unlock jobs i know for myself i dislike the fact that i'm a PUG and not a monk. I hope SE would do unlock jobs roles and it would have there own WS,spell and JA like how they did in ffxi.

Thats not exactly what SE said though. They said that their options were

The first idea is that the traditional names would be introduced as “higher” or “advanced” classes. The traditional classes would thus be something of a goal for players.

The second idea is that the traditional names would be more of a subset or specialization within the existing classes.

The second one is exactly what My idea is.

Classes are jobs. Different words which describe the same idea. Is that too incomprehensible for some people?

I'd rather see a Black Mage, who casts black magic and not a Smukeltigloopagloppinwimwang who has no defined role.

On the topic of "Openness": the skill sets define the openness not the name of the classes.

I am all for SE swapping the skills around to make the jobs more specific or play more like their original FF series counterparts. We all play FF for our own reasons, but the majority of FF players I know love FF for its staple consistencies.

If you don't like that then go play another game dude.

Square Enix themselves, Both Hiromichi Tanaka (Former Producer) Nobuaki Komoto (Former Director) stated multiple times that Classes are NOT Jobs and that Jobs could be built Out of Classes.

Conjurers are Direct cast magic users while Thaumaturges are Over Time Magic Users.

You can make a Black Mage or White Mage out of either of them.

They just need to define that in game and my system does that.

A Job is a very specific item Almost a Role but not that deep.

A Class is a very generic item that encompasses multiple jobs and multiple roles.

    Character > Class > Job > role

Even WoW has the same architecture.

    Character > Class > Tree > Role

As much as I agree with you, sadly, Tanaka has no control over the direction of this game anymore. Which is a shame, because all of the games he's designed are fantastic! Even FFXIV during it's initial design and concept was great! It just wasn't finished.

It's funny because Tanaka did FFXI as well, which is what everyone wants this game to be. And yet many blame him for the outcome of this game.

Nobuaki Komoto is still the lead designer though. and If I remember correctly I believe it might have been him that said it in an interview on Eorzeapedia I'm looking into it right now.
