    Kernal Driver has stopped responding...

I've had this problem since day 1 and it's been getting worse and worse.

In the early days, my screen would randomly go black for 2 seconds then come back up and a pop up would say Windows NVIDIA Kernal Driver has stopped responding but has recovered and I could go back on my merry way. This was a rare occurrence happening perhaps once a day if that.

These days the problem is much more severe and too common, happening now every time I log in without fail.

The symptoms now are, my screen goes black but I can still hear the music, then the music becomes all distorted and makes a buzzing noise, which lasts over 10 seconds. Then I keep getting pop ups saying something has been inserted into the Audio Jack (it hasn't), then uninserted, then inserted etc. Then the whole thing just crashes and I get a message saying Fatal DirectX error.1000000d so I have to force close the game.

After that, it freezes again and I get a message saying NVIDIA Windows Kernal Mode Driver version 331.82 has stopped responding and has recovered but my mouse becomes unresponsive and laggy. I have to restart the computer to fix it.

I have updated my drivers to the most current three times now and the problems have only been getting worse and worse over time. I am worried it is causing permanent damage to my computer.

Can any computer wizards maybe give me some advice to fix this?

    GPU: GeForce GTX 660
    Intel Core i7-3770 CPU @3.40GHz
    8.00 GB RAM
    Driver Version: 331.82
    Microsoft 8
