My suggestion to Square Enix for the future of MMOs.

Make your MMOs as if you're making your offline games because one big thing you forgot to add in FFXIV is "fun" and nothing is going to change that, its ingrained in the game. This game is horrible and it might get better but it'll never become the game it could have and should have been and the game that everyone expected at launch.

At this point nothing is going to bring back the PC players, so they are completely dependent on the PS3 players simply because the magic of starting a new game is gone for almost all PC players who wanted to play this game. A year after release I still find myself wondering what the hell went wrong with this game. And now they're making a new MMO? who cares. FFXI was my first and gladly my last MMO, it was a great game and not half assed like FFXIV.

Make whatever new MMOs you have planned into something fun. Don't give us generic time sinks; like running around for ages when it comes to storyline quests, like warping around zones to shop for stuff, like running off to some corner of the map to finish a quest (the quests are boring as hell too). I mean if the game had nice environments one would accept the fact that it has you running around, its at least nice to look at, but instead we get these dull wastelands with nothing to look forward to. Doesn't look like they are going to change much when it comes to the map, and understandably, they take too much time and they have enough on their plate but this shouldn't have even been an issue. I don't care about copy/paste, I care that there is no variety whatsoever...somehow they decided that seamless is more important than variety.

Honestly I would suggest they not release an unfinished game to make a quick buck to increase share value at the end of a fiscal quarter to make their company look better.

90% of FFXIV's issues is the fact that nothing was finished, and still next to nothing is finished. Honestly we have no idea if FFXIV will be fun, until the basic content of FFXIV is added (atm over 60+% of the map is not even unlocked). And you are dead wrong about the all the pc players not coming back.. those who where fans of XI who hate abysea, if the game shapes up they will come back. The mainstream genre yea they are lost for ever... game has permanently failed to them they are already drooling over the next mmo release, but those who are a true ff fan... it would be stupid not to look back if they indeed fix it... Have to remember XI was horrible in year 1 as well, and it turned out fine once they "Fixed" that game as well.

And don't let Tanaka lead any more MMO development.

You guys can quit the crying any time now....
First off it was stated IN ADVANCE ffxiv was going to be the same size as ffxi was at launch. This meant the PS2 JAPANESE LAUNCH.

the only thing bad about the game was the bugs that prevent adding much at launch content wise. Which is getting fixed. No mmo is finished nor needs to be huge @ launch. People will just burn through content like no tomarrow. ffxi wasn't huge at ps2 NA launch either.
The only other thing wrong is people expected an 8 year old game right @ launch. And over speculated pipe dreams as facts. (this happen to everyone na and japanese)

Sorry but The first year in any mmo is always the hardest. content is slow at first due to just launching the thing and trying to balance the flow of content. What players need to do is not burn through it so fast.

Wow somehow I never expected a complete fanboy response from you!

...and yes it was, I was playing it by the time it hit PS2 launch state side and it was not just complete but it had an expansion pack to boot (maybe two, can't remember). This game is so half assed in every aspect, not just content, and definitely not just the bugs....hell you just started playing the other day fanboy you don't even know about the bugs. Kilta....FFXIV is a horrible game and while it will get better there is plenty better out there, both online and offline, and this is unfortunate - not that i wanted this but I got this...we all did. I know by your posts you're a blind fanboy, its not OK to be one, but I guess that's what brand marketing does for you, people fall in love with a brand over an idea...just keep in mind SE isn't the only game company out there and keep in mind that you supported them over the years for making good games not pulling half assed ones at us, because if you support them over this game then nothing stops them from releasing more half finished products.

I know too that you like to act like the know it all around here. Let me be nice and save you the trouble, hardly anyone listens to you because you act like an obvious fanboy, so take it from me and don't bother. ...and I'm only R37 on one class, I didn't burn through anything trust me, it burned me out nonetheless.

SO now you are comparing an 18 month old game to an 8 month old game, America isnt the whole world you know.

Anyone with half a brain knows that FFXI was released in US 18 months after in Japan which is why it had an expansion, so come back with the "I played FFXI when it was launched in US" argument in 10 months.

Fact is at the Japanese launch FFXI had no chocobos, only zones were between the 3 main cities and jeuno, including said cities.

If anything the only mistake SE made was releasing the game world wide at the same time, because in the US they expect an 18 month old mmo at launch because of what the saw with FFXI.

I have seen too many "well FFXI had loads to do at US launch, so FFXIV should" when the origanal Japanese launch of FFXI was if anything worse than FFXIV.

Here is a link to a site that shows what your awesome game that for some reason in your little xenophobic world where you get everything first had an expansion released with it was like at the REAL launch, http://zeusls.llima.net/download/ffxiupdatehistory.html

No we expect a game made in 2010 to not release like one made in 2003... Im sorry but technology rapidly evolves at a pace that is neckbreaking to say the least. As was said there are MMOs out there capable of releasing a finished game worldwide, and while it may not be perfect it is incredibly succesful right now. So if your excuse is really going to be that "11 was like this so its fine", please dont bother. The only mistake SE made was releasing an unfinished product. We didnt need an 18 month old game, just one that learned from its past mistakes and could release and stand on its own two feet.

All the rapidly evolving technology means is that it gets more complecated to write the code, look at 90s programming code then look at modern code, its alot more complecated, then they need to adapt the code to a veriety of differany system configurations and so on.

Yes technology is evolving fast but this makes it alot harder to make games because the games are expected to be at a certain standard.

Also human capabilities are not evolving as fast as technology, so you say its impossible to compare ffxiv and ffxi, because of the technology, but people cant work any harder or faster than they could in 2002 if anything the technology is overtaking humans in this respect

What would you think if you got a complete game, but it used the same engine as ff1, i know you would be crying because it is not up to modern standards.

Yes I agree they rushed the game out but I also think it would have done better if it was released in Japan before US and EU because when a new mmo comes out, all of a sudden everyone in the western world becomes a programming and networking pro, I have seen people complaining that its taking too long to bring the game up to standard, apparently thinking they could make a modern completed mmo in half the time, which no one seems to want to prove.

And what I quoted was when Mack said that ffxi was complete at US launch, not an ffxiv vs ffxi argument which makes your post irrelevent because it was completly off my topic

Well, 10 months, 18 months... Doesn't matter to me.

Fact is it's 2011 and not 2003 anymore. People have less and less money to spend for their hobbies and their time off.
Also expectations are a bit higher 7-8 years later. Especially because we all thought SE learned something from XI.

Now they sell me a pile of crap for my hard earned money. Of course i'm pissed. Of course most others are.
Good we have a platform here to let them know directly what we think. What should it be good for if everyone that doesn't like what he got just moved along playing something else?
Wouldn't be very constructive in my opinion. I think in this case you just can't tell them often enough.

This game fails in every aspect but graphics. And even that part is somehow lame because you need a pretty good PC if you want to enjoy it all the way without FPS going below 10.

I completely agree with the OP. The game had it's chance. Everyone was surprised it was released that early. Can't say how disappointed I am. I enjoyed XI, I really wanted to play this one, too but every fix and every add on coming has something bitter to me because it just comes too late. Maybe at the end of summer we'll have an acceptable game. But as I said, too late for me. And please don't tell me anything about it being free at this point and I shouldn't complain. It was not free, payed for it.

And the fact they said nothing about LS management (which is horrible), I can't bind my keys the way I want to (IJKL is crap for camera movement), we didn't have a real search function from start, party play/hate control is a joke, Marketwards suck, Quests are lame and repetitive, horrible server lag and all the other disappointing things really make me doubt even Yoshida and his Team can turn it into something enjoyable in the end.
Yet, we don't really know what the next patches will really look like.
Above of all that, the latest Q&A for the battle system was a really frustrating read. For the future, SE, the phrase "We'll look into that" is nothing the players like to hear.

I don't know if and when I'll log back in. Pitty, really wanted to slay stuff with my gang in a so-called next gen MMO.
