Thanks for all the input everyone. I already have a PS4 and don't plan on messing with its HD since I am hoping they have taken some of this into account. I am just not sure how soon it will be out on PS4 so that why I'm wondering if an extra $100-$200 is worth it right now, I will most likely sell the PS3 once I switch over.

You can get a 1TB seagate maximus hybrid drive for approx. $100. According to Eurogamer and a speed comparison for Stock HDD v. SSD v. Hybrid, a hybrid would still be an economical choice. It may be the 7200RPM as they do state they are unsure if the hybrid selling point really works or not, but it still saw gains over the stock drive.

Let me quote the key sentence:

"More recent SSDs will often contain internal idle/background garbage collection mechanisms that work independently of trimming; although this successfully maintains their performance even under operating systems that do not (yet) support Trim, it has the associated drawbacks of increased write amplification and wear of the flash cells."

Where does it say that TRIM makes garbage collection largely irrelevant?
If you don't understand what this means, this is the wrong place to explain this.
You just have to trust me, I do this for a living...

You can also buy the SSD for the PS3 and build it later in your PS4

SSD definitely increases your performance, but at the sametime.. you can buy another PS3 with the price of a decent SSD.

Make sure its 5400RPM though or you'll over heat the PS3 and kill the machine, 7200 might be a few seconds faster but the PS3 wasnt built to cope with the extra heat they emit.

EDIT: example since I timed it, it took 1min from log-in screen (user name/password) to get to the adventure field (New Gridania) during UK Prime Time the other weekend
    LOL this made my day.

Anyways, I installed a Samsung 840 Pro 250GB SSD in my PS3 and it just wowed me. Loading times in any zones is super fast, crowded fates won't be a problem since you can see the mobs load faster with a SSD compared to a HDD. Overall I would highly recommend it. Install was very easy including the software installation.

Its an definately an SSD I might have got the RPM thing from if your putting a standard HDD in there.
I am not the most techy of people I'll freely admit that lol.

Got a SSD in my PS3 just for this game and it works great. No need to buy a good ssd either as the PS3 only supports sata I. So you can go all out and buy the best one out there if you like but you won't experience the benefits.

Would rather just save for a PS4 than continue with playing the crippled version of the game.
