I know you said one, but I chose basically the entire soundtrack, as every single piece was crafted perfectly for the zone and situation they were used in. The soundtrack to XI comes close to being my favorite, only slightly eclipsed by VII.
There are not enough words to describe the feelings these tracks bring to me, and what they make me think about. FFXI was a work of pure art, and while it is now resting in my past, it will always be a part of my life that stands out for me.

How well music fits doesn't factor in to whether or not it is 'good' music in any way whatsoever. Mediocre music is still mediocre, even if it fits a zone perfectly. A good example of this is the market music (in FFXIV). It fits the market perfectly, but it's still excessively bland. You wouldn't understand unless you played the game. The music fits very well with every zone/scene/battle so you visualize all of that whenever you listen to the soundtrack. Besides that, it actually IS an amazing soundtrack on its own. Man, I notice that every time someone says something good about XI another person will immediately dismiss it as nostalgia. It's getting old guys.
What's getting old is people constantly holding up FFXI as what FFXIV should aspire to be. The constantly push to make it more like that game instead of letting it iron out its flaws and become its own game is hurting it right now as much as anything else.

Final WoTG boss music, best boss battle theme to round out the best FFXI storyline (in my opinion, of course).
I guess you didn't take the time to read my entire post? You're narrow minded if you think people don't want FFXIV to be its own thing, but I'm not going to argue this with you. You probably wouldn't see it from my point of view and this is not the thread for it.How well music fits doesn't factor in to whether or not it is 'good' music in any way whatsoever. So much good music to choose from...
My favorites (In no particular order):
Mhuara
Zi'Tah - fantastic track!
Xarcabard - great when it gets going
Gustaberg (reminds me of Princess Mononoke music)
Sarutabaruta
Windurst
I agree that feedback needs to be constructive in regards to improving the uniqueness of FFXIV rather than cloning all the things we liked about XI.
In that respect, comparisons to FFXI are good if they tend to focus on more general and abstract concepts.

People like country music, I find it the lowest quality song writing and instrumentation around. Not to mention people already stated that they all fit perfectly and gives off the atmosphere just right. Like this song for example:So, I've listened to most of these links, and haven't really been that impressed. Some of them are nice, but none of them have made me go "I wish that was on the FFXIV soundtrack." Are you sure you're not simply being persuaded by nostalgia rather than the quality of the music?

Do I need to even say what it could be related to? You can just listen to it and know exactly where and what it would be used for. Nostalgia plays a part...but it's not pure nostalgia..it's actually just good..music. Nobuo did fine with XIV's soundtrack, but like everyone else, he didn't have much to go on, which is why FFIX is still helmed as one of the best soundtracks he did because he did the music to fit every single situation as the game progressed.
Think logically for a second:
Final Fantasy XI was their first FF MMO, it has all the basics right and in recent years, even more casual friendly than WoW. It has a ton of content, working party system and a great sense of accomplishment.
Final Fantasy XIV....threw all of that out and ignored what they did with FFXI, let alone FMO for a combined 10 years of MMO knowledge and design. There isn't even a basic search system in this game, people always say XIV should aspire to be XI because if you actually played the game you'll realize what a huge mistake they made with trying to make XIV as different from XI as possible (Their words) while even ignoring the basics.

Sorry if someone already mentioned this but the Dynamis-Xarcabard music is super awesome:

Insulting people in the counter argument isn't going to change their minds. It will make them stick harder to their opinion regardless of whether or not it's right, and think less of your opinion simply because you insulted them. In essence, if you want to try and change someone's mind, come up with a well thought-out response and don't be a dick.

As much as I hate to agree with Demacia -_- they are absolutely right.

Cant believe no one posted that one. That had a remix for every expansion pack.
