Well, it may not to you, personally I don't want to see gigantic numbers that have no meaning clogging up my gear stats, all for the sake of derps that don't feel like comparing stats, or memorizing what gear is better :T
"durr this piece of armor has 15 vit, dan dis un has 17 vit, I JUST CAN"T TELL WHICH IS BETTER UNLESS I LVL!!!!111!"

They do have a meaning; it's the strength of the piece of gear. ilvl 90 > 80 >70, etc., it's quite simple and rather efficient. And I'm not even going to bother responding to your "quote".

so we could do ilv 50,51,52,53,54,55 for current gear rather than 50,55,60,70,80,90,95 and have the same stats and when the level cap increases to 55 the ilv90 (or now 54) gear would still have the same stats and be better then the ilv 55 and 56 (and maybe 57) standard easy obtained gear (white, pink, green) at level cap increase.

point is it is all just a number indicating that the gear is a tier higher, i they increase by 1, 5 or 10 it does not matter as its just a number and all that matters is the actual gear and the stats on them (something that wont change from current gear). While the huge jumps 50 >55>60>70>80>90 should have been done as 55>60>60(current 70, dl)>70 (current 80, CT drops) >75 (current 90, myth/coil), to make the transition a bit easier for latter

n the end, its all just a number to say order of strength of gear

    Item levels do not matter.

Most MMO's have an Item level and a Required level. Item level is just a level of the stats on that item... usually higher item levels have more stats. Required level is the only thing that matters. When can you use said item.

I think WoW is up to iLvl500-600 now? The level cap is 90? So, in the grand scheme of things, with some exceptions, the iLv of an item simply refers to its relative strength -- the higher the better. And that's about it.

In FFXI, the iLv generally refers to what your character level would be with those stats because they can't move the cap past 99, but that's not really how it works in WoW, and though I can definitely see that's what they were aiming for with FFXIV's system, they've already started to lose sight of that, because if we were at Lv 90, we'd have boosts to elemental resistances, *all* stats, determination, and etc. and the items are not doing that. So just look at the iLv as a basic determinant of the item's relative strength compared to other item levels, not yours.

Do you people even know what you're complaining about? Do any of you even know what ilvl actually is? Do you understand budgeting and why ilvl would be around even without the visible number telling you what it is? Probably not.

Yes, I do understand what ilvl actually is. It is a number that takes all the stats into consideration, compares them to those of other items and makes a call on how much that item should be valued at. The items at level 50 aren't following the same scale as the items leading up to 50 though. If they are going to make the number visible, at least make it consistent and accurate. Relic jumps up 10 item levels to relic+1 with a very small stat boost. It most definitely is not representative of 10 character levels.

It most likely has nothing to do with character levels. You should get that thought out of your head. It's not about what level your character would be with those stats, it's the amount of stats on the item and its budget. There are other factors, but that is the major one.
