    Item Level too high

I couldn't be the only that thinks the item level of gear is too high. What happens when they raise the level cap? Item level 60 gear won't actually be the stats of gear at level 60, I assume.

So why not go by 1 level at a time instead of 5 or 10. Make AK gear item level 52, Darklight 53, Relic 54, Relic+1 55 and Allagan 56 (in 2.1). It seems a lot more believable that the stats on relic+1 would be seen on a level 55 weapon instead of a level 90 one. I also assume that as more turns get added to coil that the item level is going to go up as well.

I realize it has no actual impact on the game, I just don't want to see item level 100+ when the cap is 50.

Edit: Since I'm not quite sure everyone is understanding why I brought this up, I think this better articulates it.

Everything in the game is just numbers. It's nice for them to have some kind of relevance behind them rather than arbitrary values. If you look at lower level items, their item level actually represents what level of item it has the stats of. A level 35 spear with an item level of 37 has the same damage as a level 37 spear. I don't think a level 90 weapon is going to have the same damage as a lvl 50 relic. It seems more like a level 55-60 weapon if they keep the same basic damage increase throughout the next 10 levels.

Again, it doesn't affect the game, but it's still something that bothers me.

Well that stats of the gear only minimally increases with each upgrade, the ilvl means nothing ingame dunno why they even bothered to put it on the gear

Perhaps it is to facilitate the implementation of iLvl checks.

If iLvls are of small increments (e.g 50 for AF 51 for AK 52 for DL) it will be hard to accurately set iLvl restriction for dungeon content as it does not take decimal into account

There's this. Larger iLvl increments mean content with iLvl requirements allow a broader range of gear that can be mixed together.

It's also to encourage people to actually upgrade. If the ugly hat were only +1, more people would choose to be pretty than when the ugly hat is +10. (Oh sure, you're super-smart and look at every stat and do all the math, but remember, you're reading a forum dedicated to the game, let alone posting in one, which means you're putting much more energy into this than the average player.)

The reason behind this was because they didnt want to raise the level past 99

The complete oppisite is going on in ARR where they do plan to raise the level beyone 50 but already have i90 gear

Exactly, in XI it's more relevant because unlike ARR, XI has additional stats, like for example:

In ARR? Item level is more of the "progression point", it's not going to go very high very fast since we don't know where the "final cap" will be or even what the next cap is - People would mostly assume it will keep having huge leaps like it did in Vanilla so far, it leapt high because it incorporated end-game gear from 1.x, which defaulted at ilvl 70, soon to be boosted to 80. Ilvl in generic MMOs tend to more be a "score" than anything.

Too late for that now. Really hope we don't end up with some crazy nonsensical numbers as time goes by :x

I assumed the ilvl was just there as a "gear score" of sorts for your weapon. Makes it a lot easier to be about shout "LF ilvl 90 DPS for WP speed".
