Damn, I did <_>You missed the crystals, Suzaku.
And he has a point, Meowy. It doesn't matter what order you played the FF games in, or when you started playing them, it only matters what you recognize in them, and that you do!
Personally, I consider the FF series to have ended at X. That was the last game that to me says 'Final Fantasy'. To avoid some drama, I'll leave XI out of this entirely, both because it's an MMO, and because I never saw the full story.
Whether it was entirely due to him or not, without Sakaguchi, SE may be capable of making good games (i.e. XII/XIII), but not of making Final Fantasy's.
... and now I need to finish III. And play back through V... and maybe VI or IX.
Curse this nostalgia ridden thread! ;p
Did XIII have chocobos?

XIII is a hell of a lot more of a Final Fantasy than XII could ever wish to be, XIII has great characters love them or hate them (I'm looking at you Hope.)You missed the crystals, Suzaku.

I wouldn't mind some of the devs getting inspiration from this video/series if they haven't already been looking to their past already. Look to where you're from to improve on the future.

hahaha hearing the opening themes for 7 and 8 again gave me goosebumps. Thanks for sharing this!
Gotta remember ff isn't about looking to the past. Its about how they can improve. I like the way the game is now it is fresh and not the same only same old.. level class, level next class rinse and repeat. We had a chance to make our own classes not something really done in mmo. And people beat this like no tomarrow. I vote for new and fresh over tried and tested.![]()
But ya i can't wait to have cookie cutting and everyone playing everything the same and being the same 4 classes/jobs.
Which btw cookie cutting doesn't equal unique.
I rather go for unique characters over classes and have ppl cookie cut.

I want originality and creativity, but if anything I'm saying don't do things other MMOs are doing just because it's what works for them.
So here's what I'm summing up as "common themes in Final Fantasy":
- Crystals in the form of actual crystals or spheres
- Common "ultimate weapons" (Ragnarok, Masamune, Excalibur, Save the Queen)
- Chocobos
- Airships
- Player Summons (Ifrit, Shiva, Leviathan, Odin, Alexander, Ramuh, etc.)
- Yoshitaka Amano's conceptual art
- Nobuo Uematsu's musical scores
- Cid
- Hiroyuki Itou's combat innovations
- Sakaguchi's story (or at least inspirations from it)
- Main-stay battle "jobs" or "roles" (Black Mage, White Mage, Summoner, Warrior, Thief, Dragoon -- at least one character or element from each game has a common trait for these along with innovations to the job)
That's what I recall from the last episode at least.

Everytime i think about FF, i remind this:

..with the best track ever made.
XIII is a bad soap opera that lasts for 30 hrs! Ok I can endure a bad plot but I can't endure feeling like I'm playing a tunnel shooter like Modern Warfare when I'm trying to explore a world. Good luck trying to find anything there's nothing to discover. Oh yeah XIV isn't innocent of this either. You can go everywhere but everywhere just happens to be the same place over and over again.
