tbh I never saw an difference between ff7 ff8 ff9 ffx ff12. girl meets boy, girl may/does need to sacrifice herself , boy saves girl/ ore another girl credits roll

Seriously though, any true FF fan (the ones who enjoyed the series before FFVII was nominated for game of the year in 2003) will tell you that FF has been going downhill since Square merged with Enix (FFX onward). I mean really, no flyable airships!?!? WTF!?!?!?

Note: FFXI was in production before the merger. This is likely the reason it still had a plethora of traditional FF goodies and felt like a real FF game.

Sadly, I think those days are gone. I'd love SE to prove me wrong, but I'm doubtful. If there's any thread on these forums that they need to see, it's this one. Thank you so much for posting this, Eldaena. It really brought me back.

Plenty of people enjoy the games after VII as well. Don't generalize the playerbase and call them "true FF fans" please. People like you make the series inaccessible to newcomers.

This is true. Meowy it doesn't matter if you've played since the first Final Fantasy or just FFXIV, you can be a final fantasy fan regardless.

It doesn't matter how long you've enjoyed the games or game, just that you do. There is more to final fantasy than flyable airships and playing the older games.

I wanted to edit my original post but I'll just place it here instead.

- FFXI was horrible before the merger (not that the merger did anything for it as it happened in the same year it became "playable")
-- FFXI got a lot of the content that people are pandering for in expansions released much later than the merger
- FFX was horrible and was a product of Squaresoft
- FFXII was not as horrible as FFX and was a product of Square Enix

So go away. Nostalgia distorts your already biased view.

And he has a point, Meowy. It doesn't matter what order you played the FF games in, or when you started playing them, it only matters what you recognize in them, and that you do!

Personally, I consider the FF series to have ended at X. That was the last game that to me says 'Final Fantasy'. To avoid some drama, I'll leave XI out of this entirely, both because it's an MMO, and because I never saw the full story.

Whether it was entirely due to him or not, without Sakaguchi, SE may be capable of making good games (i.e. XII/XIII), but not of making Final Fantasy's.


... and now I need to finish III. And play back through V... and maybe VI or IX.
