@Wolfie it's about realism even in a online game they should have some type of Realism.
Repairing an equipped armor is no more or less realistic than frying a mob with fire, and riding a yellow bird across the globe. The game has to abide by its rule, sure, but whatever rules those are they should be convenient all the time.

I get up every day in real life and craft myself some armor using a red ball of fire only to have it blow up in my face and suffer no third degree burns what so ever. Therefore, everyone's argument is invalid.

Well I just want to remind people that the repair NPC actually repairs equipment while you wear it. In fact they can't repair any equipment that you aren't wearing actually.

I think it is just the design function of the bazaar posting system that makes you need to take off and seek repairs which I don't find that big a deal. Repairs are much more reasonable now after the few patches adjusting rates of durability decreasing. I just wish I wouldn't fail repairs so regularly on new and full moons even being over 30-40 ranks above the item's rank.

Exactly, even since CB (which is when I started), there was no /sea all. I'm like oh, okay, minor inconvenience that'll be fixed by release.

Lo and behold, no fix to missing functionality.

Just looking at the elemental charts can explain some of it I think. Fire being strong to Ice/weak to Wind can explain something like an Ice unstable popping up. Then sometimes you're crafting with multiple types of shards/crystals. It may go deeper than that as well, but I'm not too sure.

I think I've had some that couldn't be explained away by the elemental chart so easily, and rather than looking into moon phase, weather, calender, etc. I just went with "It's wacky".

In real life does a blacksmith repair while you wearing it? no they don't there your answer for this question.
This is a horrible reason to make it OK to do to players. Read my signature to know where I stand.

Unequip, repair, then reequip is an unnecessary step that adds absolutely nothing to the enjoyment of the game.
Thank you, couldn't have said it better myself.

Click Body--> send to repair --> price --> done ---> wait for repair---> back on your body.

Yea, but it does need to be more convenient. As far as realism, just because the RPs like it doesnt mean the other 95% of the playerbase needs to be exposed to this ridiculously inconvenient system.

If you put something up for repair while you have it equipped, the assumption is that you have unequipped it. Actually making you unequip it and take two additional steps is unnecessary. Perhaps, for the sake of realism, the item could become 'unequipped' when someone actually goes into repair mode. All the while it is in your bazaar, however, it should still be equippable.
If it can make both sides of the argument happy, then fine by me. Otherwise lets drop THAT aspect of realism.

I point this out all the time, but anybody that defends the way PC repairs work, seem to not mind the fac that an NPC can figure out how to do it, but that players can't. Odd?!?!..........

"Realism" I guess. But you can use /partycmd invite [NAME] to invite someone from far away IIRC. It just isn't stated anywhere.

    2. Why can't I see where in the world people on my friend list or linkshell are at any given time?
Again, probably realism. I'd like to be able to do this though. Currently I just ask people where they are.

    3. Why do I have to un-equip my gear, then seek repairs on them, then re-equip once repaired?
"Realism" again. But we should be able to keep it equipped.

    4. Why can't I change any graphics/sounds settings from within the game?
Badly optimized. Just like a lot of the game.

    5. Why are food effects so vague?
Complex unintuitive system in the first place made bad by the lack of information about it. Probably went unfinished because of time constraints or just because fuck Culinarians?

    6. Why is it when crafting, I am using fire shards and a harnessed ice element gets unstable?
I think it has to do with the hour more than the shards. Each 3 hour period in an Eorzean day is associated with one of the 6 elements, and I think that's what affects the elemental instability (YES I READ THE BOOKS IN THE CON/THM GUILDS). I didn't test it yet but that seems to be what I experience. It would make more sense if only the type of crystal used is the type of instability you get.

    7. Why is it so hard to figure out who is online in your linkshell currently? People who are online, but have a different pearl equipped show up as grey, with the green light, but so do people who are online with your pearl equipped. But some others show up white. Its very confusing
Again, a badly optimized unintuitive system. It needs to be fixed though, because I am completely confused whenever I look at the LS list >_> It doesn't help that I have several types of color blindness.

I'm all for realism when it enhances game play and enjoyability. But when realism provides me with frustrations, then it can go to hell.

When they made the out of game config, it was for XI players used to an out of game config, and also due to the graphics this game takes I don't think this game could handle the graphical changes without crashing.

Not saying its a good system, just sayin'.

They made the out-of-game config for FFXI because FFXI was a PS2 to PC port. There's no reason why it should have existed for FFXIV as well, aside from Tanaka once again not being up to date with development practices.
