Make it more User Friendly! No more commands XD

First post! Been reading these forums a ton. So I thought I can contribute to a better UI for my first post.

Every now and then, Square-Enix, you update the game and add commands to toggle stuff on or off. The only problem is I can't remember half of the commands that are released and the only way i can find these commands is if I sift through updates on Lodestone.

An example of one I remember is the "/display head on/off" command. Not everyone knows of that command or any like it. It would be nice if there were more options available where all of this can be stored.

In the Configuration menu, there should be be a button for all of the display options, similar to the audio, camera, etc. I could see this is where the character shadows, dust effects, displaying helmets and such should be.

In my opinion, when you can visually see all the different options you make available, the better this game will look to newcomers and veterans alike. Please Square-Enix, if you plan on adding more commands, make a button for it too!!

This has already been addressed. They plan to make all of these setting toggles available in the config menu, such as /enemyrank, /enemyicon, /hpbar, etc.

i would like them to keep commands, and to create new commands everytime they have a new feature, but sometimes the command sucks, and I would like a visual menu feature also. or a menu that brings up all the commands, something easy. But seriously, like on the freaking real, theres a sections of text commands on the lodestone, for XI players thats a lot more than we got. Just sayin, a lot of people who say "wtf are text commands" haven't take the time to read the lodestone once. On the other hand, some text commands suck, in general I hate the new "battle adjustment" mode (targeting) text commands or maybe I hate the new targeting things in general. :[

they always seem to have this as a second tackle. If you look back at the producer notes text command is always first and a second task saying put it on the menu. I guess its a quicker fix to make it a text command than try and find the correct place and rearrange menus

I'm good with commands-a-plenty so long as there is a quickly accessible central repository of all the commands and what they do (which is available on the Lodestone). As long as they do that having a menu button alternative to those commands is icing on the cake.

As long as I know the text commands I will almost never go through a menu instead of just typing the command.

I read that too, and I couldn't be happier!

I can't keep track of all the text commands anymore. And it's not because I'm one of these kids brought up in the point-and-click internet age, it's because I'm getting old, LOL! We really should have more of a visual interface for our options. All the above mentioned toggles in the config menu. A player search interface where we can search for someone by typing their name, which will show us things like what class they are, where they are and give us an option to click and 'invite-to-party'. While I'm on the subject, a command like /pcmd is not an intuitive way to invite anyone to a party. That makes absolutely no sense to anyone who didn't play FFXI. Why isn't it something easy to guess, like /invite ? That's what it is in World of Warcraft. Surprising I even know that, considering I barely use the text command. I usually invite from the social interface, my friend list, or my guild roster with a right-click of my mouse. The only text commands I ever use on a regular basis are emotes.

It may sound spoiled, but many modern MMO players don't even USE text commands anymore. That's like expecting people to use DOS commands when they have the option of Windows 7. We need more visual interface options and intuitive ways of doing things, instead of trying to type commands and guess.

I agree with a lot of the posts made in this thread. For the sake of expediency including text commands first is a good option, but in the end from a modern game aesthetics point of view, what Rowyne says makes more sense. It's asking a bit much of the casual gamer to need to know these text commands of the top of their heads. Especially those who utilize the controller as their primary means of manipulating the game's user interface.
