Proper Loot (need/greed) Etiquette?

Just looking for a simple explanation on what is acceptable. I am a fresh level 50 and am about to start running end game dungeons. If my experience in pre-50 dungeons have shown me anything, its that everyone needs or greeds every item available regardless of what class they are currently using, etc.

I don't want to gimp myself by rolling greed on an item I could really use, but I don't want to be 'that guy' and just need/greed everything regardless of necessity.

The fact that every class can be played on one character means that people can use gear for classes they aren't currently playing. Everyone is going to be thinking about themselves anyway. So just roll what you want.

Need if need it, greed if need for alternative class, or pass if don't need for anything. That is rules I use in PUG's. With exceptions when someone asks if they can greed and let them have, most the time it is a easy go for it. Just do what you feel is right.

What is nice in this game need will only be highlighted if it is for your class/job.

Like the others have said, I need when I actually need the item for the current class I am playing and other times I will greed unless I really do not want the item as I will eventually get around to having all classes so will be able to use anything.

People will only get annoyed when someone incorrectly selects need and a person who really needs the item loses out as a result. If people select greed then they acknowledge it is basically a lottery and if you just happen to be lucky and get a few items whilst the others get nothing that's really ok - it all evens out.

Only time I'd say it's nice to ask is when dealing with DoW gear that drops with str. on it. Really this is only for mnks and drgs (with the war dps offset), but SE decided that they couldn't need on said items (wut). Meaning even if say the monk needs it, he can't actually "need" it.

I always Need if it is an upgrade from my current gear. Greed otherwise, so at the very least items don't drop to the floor.

So only "Greed" if people who would make the best use of it already possess the item (like do not greed a +strengh item as a healer)
I did not know about that rule when doing Coil 1 and took a lot of fire for greeding a ring for my alt

Basically 'proper' would be to only Need when it's an upgrade for your current role, especially in Pickup/DF groups. 'Proper' Greed would be if it's an upgrade for a job/role you're not currently on.

Pre-50 dungeons will drop stuff that you can give to your GC Promotion Officer for seals. Wanderer's Palace (iLVL55) used to drop stuff for the seal exchange on the final boss, but idk if it's bugged or has been changed since I can't do it anymore and just tossed a Darklight weapon I didn't want.

This is false. You can roll Need on your class' jewellery like any other items.

In Coil, people usually have set parties and thus everyone knows what the others' alts are so people will choose who gets the item, so it is indeed not recommenended to Greed on everything. But that's just for Coil.

Normally, Need if you can (and don't already have that unique item), Greed if you want it and Pass if you already have it or just don't want the item.

As far as level 50 dungeons go, Wanderer's Palace, all the gear that drops there can be equaled with crafted gear (Except the shield. If not a paladin, ask before lotting), so greed away. For Ampdapor Keep, most of the regular players have run it enough that they have pretty much all they need. Need on any upgrades you need, and greed on anything that's an upgrade to another job you have. If lotting for a job you don't have at 50 yet, ask if anyone needs it first.
