    Enmity list and subtargeting

I believe this pertains only the PS3 and PC players who use a controller.

I submitted this as a bug report and a GM didn't really address the issue but asked me to move it here instead. So...

One little thing I've always wondered about while tanking is the enmity list in the party list. It's accurate and lovely, but if you sub-target to a new mob, the list pauses for a second and regenerates, but what it shows you is enmity on your "hard-target".

Is this glitched. If not, why does the list reset for a second when you sub-target?

Same scenario in both images. I'm targeting one target, "sub-targeting" another, and the enmity list it's showing me is for my "hard target". If I click to confirm the sub-target, then I get the appropriate enmity list, which is what I've always done.
To be clear, when you sub-target-tab to a new target (controller), the enmity list disappears for a second, then reappears, but what appears is not the enmity for the subtarget, but the enmity for your hard-target.

In other words, there's no reason for the list to disappear, unless the game is trying to calculate enmity on a sub-target and is mistakenly calculating on the hard-target.

Quoted for Eloquence, because he described it much better than I could:

While this circle is up on B, you press an attack and that attack will activate on B and the circle sub-target will disappear and you'll be back to targeting A. Basic example: Target A, fast blade, savage blade, tap left, halone on B, target still on A, fast blade, savage blade, tap right, halone on C. It's controller's way of tab tanking as far as I know.

To permanently switch targets, you just sub-target someone and then press confirm and the target will change for real. Now the issue is that, when you sub target, the enmity list blinks, which would make you think that it would show enmity for sub-target but it doesn't; it still shows the enmity list of your main target. So for a controller tank to confirm enmity on any target other than his main target, he would have to press left or right along the d-pad and hit confirm and wait for the enmity list to refresh, essentially changing his main target.

Keyboard and mouse can select targets quickly so this might not be an issue and seem alien.

Shield Lob (Can change red text to Tomahawk and it will work perfectly Warriors)
    /macroicon "Shield Lob"
    /ac "Shield Lob" <t>
    /marking attack1 <t>

Better "macro switching", give it a read: http://tinyurl.com/ffxivhotbars

Numpad 4 and 6 will do the same as D-Pad left and right for PC players who want to see this in action.

This would be fantastic for checking enmity on sleeping targets without accidentally auto-attacking them. I have buttons on my mouse bound to numpad 2/4/6/8, mostly for healing without switching my actual target, but if I could get use out of them as a tank, that'd be grand.

So the lesson is to hold L2/R2 and cycle with the L1/R1 buttons?

I have this issue as well! I'd love to be able to check enmity without accidentally attacking without good reason

    This is what I do.

    Although it's not nearly effective.

Essentially, if they fixed what the OP's problem was, we would be able to check Enmity on other targets, while staying focused on our main target for a quick switch back.(Because sometimes you have to tab between 2 or 3 enemies just to get back to your main target, and if enemies move, it doesn't always follow the same order.
