behemoth, different size/species of behemoth, tonberries, hyur miqote elezen roegadyn lalafell mobs/NMs. i rarely see bandits, poachers, etc. groups of poachers/bandits.
MOB STRATEGY: instead of mobs hitting harder, have mobs use more abilities and attacks at a faster rate. Dream Toads for example take way too long to use ability or attacks.
developers have to make a choice and stick with it. players can and will complain that mobs are too difficult. so developers make them easy. Then players will complain that mobs are too easy, so developers have to change again. Real players will appreciate the game the way it was intended to play.
Just get a copy of the Monster Manual from D&D and start importing. It's not like they sued over Sahaugins.
Or Mindflayers.
D&D regards distinctive monsters such as mindflayers as copyrighted material.
Presumably the reason for the appearance of soulflayers in FFXI.
Would like to see the random chests we get during leves to turn into mimic's.
Doomgazzzze!!!! *while on airship*

To reinforce all suggestions I agree with completely.
Adamantoise, Behemoth, Coeurl, Iron Giant, Sahagins, Mandragora, Worms... all great ideas.
I personally like a challenge. For example, Jackanapes uses that ability that steals buffs and burns you with it's debuffs, genius!
Another thing I'd like to see are wild groups of mobs like in leves. Added as well I'd like to see pack leaders within the group, like the Alpha Wolves in FFXII. Make the alpha stronger than the rest of the group, which in turns creates a boon for them. Kill the alpha and the rest are either weakens slightly or they try to run away or towards the nearest pack. Any sort of support would also be welcome within mob groups, something that might heal, or trigger a reaction when hp is critical.
I saw someone post interesting ideas about hidden mobs that pop when certain conditions are met... stepping over worms, bugs jumping out of bushes, that sort of thing. Bandits jumping down from trees would be fun. Sahagin NM that jumps out during fishing, make it some crazy requirement with a lure just to get it to pop. Golems that pop whilst mining. Treants that pop whilst chopping down trees.
I would also really like to see a snow environment. Fill that area with dire wolves, elk, bears, ice creatures, snow leopards, and more. Undead versions of most any mob would be welcome too. Give them umbral spells and significantly more hp than a normal mob. TP skills they can use that'll half all your stats or rnk or knock you down to 10% hp on a timer.
If they do introduce a goblin city, with the whole clockwork theme, I'd like to see some automatons or puppets or something. I know there's a puppet behind the counter near Bric a Brac, not certain, I've just never seen one in battle yet. These constructs could use abilities like the calculator had in FF Tactics, basing abilities that hinder level numbers, odds and evens, just to put a new spin on making parties maybe. I really liked those hovering shield apparatus things in FFXII near the end. Any 'robotic' type mob could mos def drop mats for making guns or bullets for the rumored Musketeer job.
So yeah, I'd like to kill some killer new mobs...
Bears, T-Rex, Triceratops, Automatons, Floating Weapons, Werewolves, Golems, things like the Wheelers from Return to Oz or Mag Roaders in FFVI, Centipedes, Spiders, Small Flying Dragons, Bugs or Crabs with shells like Doblyns only not just an inverted geode with creepy face (pyramid shape, pearl shape, helmets from fallen comrades), Chimera, mutated beastmen or denizens of Eorzea (three arms, two headed, snake tail for legs, etc.)
What I'd like to see is more mobs specific to the different regions. It would help make each place feel unique if there were more animals appropriate to the those environments instead of having dodos, goats, and squirrels everywhere you go. This could also help revitalize Limsa and Gridania a bit since you would have to travel there to get certain items.
Some examples:
Black Shroud (jungle/swamp)
Spiders
Poison Frogs
Treants
Slimes
La Noscea (coastal)
Pugils
Sea Horses
Walrus/Seals (I'm sure SE could make them into viscous beasts with a little imagination)
Leeches (larger and more wormlike so they don't look like the slugs already in the game)
Thanalan (grassland/desert)
Lions (could give them wings and eagle claws to make them more interesting)
Rhinos
Sand Worms
Praying Mantis
Snakes
Coerthas: (mountain/forest)
Giant Birds/Rocs
Bears
Wasps
Golems
Mor Dhona (corrupted/magic/???)
Demons
Mutants
Ghosts
I'm sure we'll get Weapons, Behemoths, Iron Giants, Dragons, and all the other FF favorites eventually as well. It wouldn't be a FF without them. Those are all too epic for rank 50 though, so I'm sure we won't see them until the cap is raised to 70+.

Mandragora:
We need a few more "cute" type monsters.
Coerl/Tiger:
Some kind of dangerous large cat monster that has a fast attack speed and perhaps a paralyze attack.
Dragons:
I would love it if they made a couple very large (Great Buffalo size) dragons that behaved like UFO from sea. You can have one or two flying around in Coerthas and when they aggro they would land and attack you. This would help make that zone feel more alive and interactive.
I would also like to see that Corse type monster from the main story cutscene used more. It looked like it had wings and it scared the sylph pretty good.
