    Bard was also a support class and they messed with it and put it into the game as a dps class. I think they could do the same with Red Mage, probably making it a dps class as well, but im sure that most people will not be happy with what sacrifices they have to make in order for the job to fit into the tank/heals/dps structure the game has now.

    RDM's were horridly underpowered and useless for 90% of the games they were in, with the exception of being incidental healers or dealing miniscule, insignificant damage. For their utility and versatility they had to be; it made sense.

    Except for the games where they granted X-Magic/Doublecast. But that was the only reason you went after one.

    Sooooo I dunno how you'd balance that in a MMO following the WoW example where DPS requirements are tight and healer checks even tighter.

    Technically if you want a RDM-flavored class, you need only look toward Arcanist. Not SMN, not SCH, Arcanist; cross-classing CNJ skills, probably.

    Bring us the mystic fencer of all trades. my sword and shield need enchanting, and there are no more fun a player to fight and rp with then a Red Mage.

    Depends on what would be sacrificed. Unintended boss soloing? Sure. Spell spread in such a way that I can be funneled into healing even when I don't want to? Definitely (I'm okay with limited off heals but yeah, leave the healing to the real healers). Melee as a main element of the job? No way.

    Emphasize on DPS and make the utility useful yet not so OP that it breaks the job. As mentioned before, if you want a good reference from WoW, see: Retribution Paladin, Enhancement Shaman.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

    I would appreciate it if they made red mage a tank class. Here's my idea:

    They have 2 modes: Solo Mode and Group Mode (toggle - give it a cool name like X-Cast on/off)
    Offensively: They do much less damage then black mages and summoners when X-Cast is on but generate greater enmity.
    Defensively: Their spells cannot be interrupted in X-Cast mode, but they cannot heal themselves -> only others.

    They have spell defensive cool-downs and passives which is how they tank effectively based on some mix of their piety/mind/int. Would be pretty awesome

    it would be a DD, like the bard is, the bard wasnt a DD is 11, but is now, so they have shown they can change it up.
    Due to how they both work, -if- they both get put in, Id say it would perhaps be ???->Red Mage/Blue Mage (sword wielding magic Users, Mystic Swordsman wouldnt quite fit since those are all self buffs). ??? + CNJ for Red (perhaps, dunno how the combo White/Black spells would work), ??? + ACN for Blue.

    My prediction for RDM:

    Base Class: Fencer
    -melee attacker with combos that focus on debuffing enemies through attacks

    Advanced Job: Red Mage - dps (with a dash of support, sort of like bard)
    -gains casting abilities such as a refresh spell, doublecast which does two strikes of damage animated as a fireball followed by a lightning strike, en-spells which add elemental damage to attacks, party wide haste spell

    Advanced Job: Dancer - healer
    -gains self-cast buffs which transfer effect to enemies attacked. These effects can be straight up debuffs or provide benefits to party members who attack while it is debuffed.
    -cures which are cast using stacks earned by attacking/debuffing targets.

    Edit: As an aside, since Blue Mage was brought up... I predict that Blue Mage will be a job specialization of the Shepherd class, alongside Beastmaster.
