It doesn't necessarily have to be as exclusive to monster abilities as it was in FFXI or other games, nor does it necessarily mean that every ability must be learned from a monster.Hah. As I was thinking how RDM would be handled as a job and class, I came to the same conclusion as you just as I got to your post. RDM<-Fencer->Dancer
As for BLU, I don't know how it would work since there aren't any useful or memorable monster attacks that stand out in this game.
Maybe a few, but...I don't know if there are enough to make a whole class around.
Shepherd - dps/support
-use various Calls to summon instant animal based abilities whether the animal itself, or a manifestation of it. E.g. an ability where you swing your weapon and ghostly manifestation of a raptor claw appears around it. E.g. summon a midge swarm to poison your target, etc. These are physical and cost TP. They may or may not have traditional blue mage spell names.
Beastmaster
-gains access to more lasting pet summons, effectively becoming a pet class
Blue Mage
-gains access to a handful of iconic BLU spells which are all magical and cost MP. These would be acquired by questing as per normal, but the story line would be about tracking down and 'learning' the ability from the target.
-this results in a hybrid TP/MP user
Edit: alternately, all the shepherd abilities require learning as is traditional for a blue mage. The blue mage then just becomes the ultimate version of that (like Summoner is to Arcanist), while the beastmaster chooses instead to focus on the actual animals themselves rather than their power.

I would love if the rdm turned into the ffxiv version of a dps oriented reaver or valewalker from daoc =P

As has been already mentioned, RDM is one of those Jobs that just wouldn't fit into ARR's narrow role-focused battle system. After all, in FFXI it had be constantly tweaked - first with the enhancing elemental spells on it's weapon, and then being turned into a weird hybrid mana battery with Convert and Refresh. The 'jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none' schtick just wouldn't fit into ARR sadly, where Jobs and their base classes require dedicated roles. Not to mention a lot of RDM abilities are already in use by other classes (Convert on BLM for instance), making RDM very much an orphan.

oh good. it will fit right in with bard and scholar/summoner.
you have to remember that SE isn't below putting skills in multiple classes, putting convert on RDM isn't that big of an issue seeing how blm calls it "transpose" anyway (take raise and resurrect for an example, it was pretty necessary). i think the XIV devs would have no trouble fitting RDM into this game...in a very unique way.
Convert is actualy a black mage ability separate from Transpose, which is also a black mage (technically Thaumaturge) ability. They do very different things. Of the two, Convert is most similar to the traditional effect of Convert in FF games, but it is not quite the same.oh good. it will fit right in with bard and scholar/summoner.

ahh, i see. sorry haven't leveled thm high enough for blm >.<
still don't see what the problem would be with that. you could give it a different name and have it do different things depending on which stance, for instance you could have it drain tp in a caster stance, or mp in a melee stance.
I'm going to suggest that there be a new base class mystic fencer or something like that with an option of going into a Tank and Dps Job. Red Mage could be either or perhaps we might get Two red mage jobs one built for dps one for tanking. Either way red mage is all over the map, I think the best option would be to give some way to move forward as both DPS(because everyone loves dps) and tanking (Because need more tanks and someone using magic to keep themselves durable while they do fencing works pretty damned well conceptually)
If you made RDM a support class with serious support abilities it could be very viable.
Depending on the DPS in the party it could have skills to lower Piercing Resistance by a % or increase elemental damage like for requiem.
It could even cast spells to increase the parry of a tank. Or increase CD effectiveness for certain classes. *increase offensive CD by x%*
A really technical job that would make a party kick ass!
Plus it would be something completely different!
Just my opinion though![]()

support. bring in the other casting-swordsman classes while your at it. love most of those classes (love everything with a sword for the most part)
