sooooo.... I used to play a paladin healer in wow.

I'm assuming that WHM is the suggested move? It looks to be the "raw throughput" style healer I'm used to. I've tried SCH, and it just doesn't feel right to me. It's a very good healer, but I'm just used to "and you get to live, and you get to live, and you get to live EVERYBODY GETS TO LIV-*&^% outta MP" <(Read that last bit like the show where oprah gave everyone a free car.) style healing

For what it's worth my friend felt healing a Warrior was easier as a Scholar over a White Mage.

White Mages definitely fit Paladins closer, though I'd still say they share the most similarities with a Holy Priest in the end. But yes, White Mages are the kings of healing output, at least in the AoE and burst healing sense. Single target healing and mitigation is the Scholar's domain. Overly simplified, but I'm feeling lazy.

And well... I suppose an inexperienced healer appreciates the Faerie being quite good on its own. That said, not having the tools to adequately answer all situations until 40 is a bit annoying.

WHM likes big numbers. SCH likes small numbers.
You like big numbers, go WHM. If you like small numbers, go SCH.

And no, I don't just mean the green ones.

It depends if you want to react to HP drops or if you want to limit HP drops.
I think you'd feel more at home as a WHM which is a reactive healer: Oh HP bar dropped let me get that right up for you. vs. : I will make sure your HP bar doesn't drop like crazy, I protect you and my little pocket WHM is backing me up.

With that said, WHM really only has to deal with cool downs and direct heals while SCH also has to manage the pet in order to achieve his/her full potential. That is something that you should keep in mind as well.
WHM - pretty straight forward healer that reacts to whats happening most of the time (minus rotations that one knows there will be a huge spike) since it's a reactive healer. Do stuff after something happens (most of the time)
SCH - has to manage more mechanics and read a fight to know what's going to happen much more than a WHM since it's a pro-active healer. Do stuff before something happens. (most of the time).

Even though, I am not sure why you made the OP since you seem to have mind up your mind already

Theres no such equivalent as PLD healer in ffxiv. The only similarity WHM/SCH got with wow PLD is that they both heal, everything else is very very different. WoW PLD has heavy armor/buffs/decent dps/can tank even on healer tree. WHM has robe/1 buff/1 aoe dps skill and dies like a fly. SCH has robe/some occasional group buffs/very bad dps/dies like a fly. So basically i would recommend unless ur adamant on just healing to try out either PLD or WAR and see how it goes.

HAH I can relate, I used to be a resto sham in WoW, no fancy shields there. I lvled SCH and decided something was off. Terrific healer, but I decided to give WHM a try, it's lvl 39 atm.

we're talking only about the healing standpoint here. holy priest, pld and resto sham were all about direct heals with a few variants here and there. As far as heals are concerned ( heal, lesser heal, greater heal etc.) it's a lot similar to whm, perhaps excluding the massive AoE healing. Whereas druid was HoT focuse and disc priest was more like SCH where it mitigated damage.

So yes, if you're looking for a reactive healer with big numbers, WHM should do it for you.
