Is it possible to patch and play?

I do not know. But you could just try it and find out for yourself.

Correction..you can - You cannot log into the same character or any other characters on the same account while one is logged in (as far as I'm aware), unless you weren't being serious.

You should be able to play on one with the other patching with no problem . It wont check to see if a character is in a world until you try to log a character in.

You can't log in to the same account on multiple places.

You can't login on the same data center multiple times.
But you can login to the login server on the same account multiple times and you can login to NA/EU and JP datacenter at same time on the same account

I actually did this this week since I'm going home for vacation... I was playing on my PC and meanwhile I had logged into my PS3 version and let it patch while I was playing on my PC version. Works no problems. I did not attempt to login to my character on both at the same time, I imagine this is where the issue would come in.
