Can you update subscription option?

I am wondering if either a community member or a moderator can answer my question. I signed up for cheaper of the two subscriptions, but I would I like to upgrade to the one which allows two different characters to be on the same server. Do I have to wait till my subscription runs out?

I imagine you will have to wait as subscriptions once started can't be changed. For example, in FFXI each character is paid for separately and when you cancel one it only ceases to be playable once the current sub. expires. While FFXIV is a different game with separate subs. I expect the underlying payment system is the same and the rules common to both games.

A bit off topic but would SE an hourly rate subscription?

I think it inconceivable SE would do this, for many practical reasons and ultimately what benefit would it be to them? No MMO I know of has an hourly rate, probably for the same reasons.
