That's probably because you can't distinguish between people playing a MMO with other people, and people grouping for combat. The former isn't dependent on the latter, but you don't see that.

What? Sorry Im perplexed by this idea....I want to play a completely soloable MMO, yeah, huh......pretty sure they don't have those plans hoping they don't anyways.
I for one wouldn't be able to stomach it, I already find it way to solo friendly in the overland, I mean, hey why not just add an Iwin button and let us solo bahamut...if you can't make friends to play with, then play a solo game, the major reason people play these games is not to solo...its to play with others, so I just don't understand the idea at all. for what reason would a person play an MMO if they didn't want to need others? Isn't that like SUPER BORING?
You will be able to solo a dungeon, or at least enter with a chocobo as time goes on and newer dungeons are released. Then instead of having to rescale the mobs, you will get a buff through the Echo. So there won't be a seperate mode, but you'll be able to enter solo eventually. This way, people that enter the game later will be able to still do the story stuff long after everyone else cleared it.
There are other ways to be social than merely grouping for combat purposes. When I join a FC/LS and participate in chat, I'm being social. When I answer "How do I...?" questions in /shout or /yell or join in the good-natured banter there, I'm being social. When I take the better part of an evening's play-session to help a new person figure out how to work gearsets or run halfway across a zone to raise/rez someone, I'm being social.
And, for heaven's sake, when I participate in a RP scene (you know, emphasizing the RP part of mmoRPg), I'm being social.
Frankly, with how fast people rushrushrush through dungeons with very little, if any, chat at all, grouping in FFXIV is about as un-social as it gets.
I would welcome solo dungeons and the opportunity to complete story-mode dungeons on my own because I'm social in many more ways than merely grouping for combat.
As another idea of making solo modes- to give NPC-helpers to come with player. In different dungeons and depending on class these helpers can be different. For example, if you are tank- helpers will be healer and of just DD or just healer. Do you remember main story quests, when NPCs with green names attack enemies and healing you? Whey are pretty smart to help the player to clean all mob packs step by step
BUt the main problem is dungeons, where you need cooperation. Maybe for solo modes completing route of these dungeons will be changed a little
As other have already said, this idea is cancer to MMO's.
