Amazing story, fantastic graphics, and really I've only had a few minor gripes with this game.
But as I see and hear more from the developers about incoming changes (and I see people plugging their ears on the forums) I become very discouraged.
See, I don't -want- to level other classes. Running Fates (or even repetitive dungeons) on a class other than the ones I enjoy isn't worthwhile content to me. I was excited about Crystal Tower, but releasing it as is now would be like Blizzard releasing T14 AFTER they release T15 content. Sure, you'll get some people who run it for vanity, you'll get some people who run it for the experience. You'll get a few who run it to gear up for Coil - but the fact is, it's not necessary. It CAN be skipped, and easily - therefore, people will skip it. For a genre whose precedent was set by WoW, it's amazing to me to see SE not understand the simple fact that the general populace takes a class they enjoy and runs it to its maximum potential.
Players like to advance their character in strength. As an example, I was excited when I got Swiftcast. (Although mostly because I didn't have to touch THM again.) I don't like endless repetitive grinding on a class I don't enjoy. I enjoy my SMN. I want to focus on my SMN. I'm not the only one who feels this way.
It's hilarious because if you used the same arguments I see here every day on these forums, you'd be laughed off the face of the game. "There's still content! Level another class!"
Let's be clear here: Leveling alts is not acceptable expansive content in the competitive MMO genre. I enjoy SMN, I enjoy my Marauder. I don't see any reason to level crafting professions, but that's my case with any MMO.
Now, I'm not here to complain about the lack of content. It's a new game, I get that. I'm saddened because of the direction the additional content is going. The fact that CT offers LOWER TIER gear than Coil means it will not see as much action. Period. It will be harder to find groups, and for the endgame minded people will likely just skip it. That's all there is to it, and I'm utterly blown away that the devs don't see something so blatantly obvious.
If there were other methods of obtaining tomes besides running AK and WP over and over and over again, I might be able to stand the grind. As it stands, the devs have made some incredibly poor design choices and, while I'm sad to go, I don't see myself sticking around.
WoD looks really good. I was fully planning on quitting WoW for this game - had already guild quit, the whole shebang - but between this and the fact that they refuse to acknowledge let alone address the netcode issue... Well...
SWTOR all over again.
Just saying.
I've already unsubscribed, but I will be keeping an eye on the forums. If something with the netcode or endgame progression is addressed, I'll happily come back - but I'm far to disappointed with the route of design SE has taken at this point in time.
edit: I have been informed the devs have actually addressed the netcode issue and are working towards fixes. This is fantastic news for someone who loves this game as much as I do. I will be resubscribing this evening.
