GRIN should have been making FFXIV, lol.
We are not disputing that Grin was working on a project it called Final Fantasy : Fortress. What we are disputing is that Square Enix had any involvement in its start. From what I've been able to find, Square Enix has had no documentation about this game. And they ALWAYS announce outside developers working to publish a game in their IP's. They announced DSIII before Obsidian even started working on it.Exactly, it's just a tech demo. It's not a final product but of course it would be asking too much of our friends on the forum to use their brain for 0.3 seconds to incorporate that fact. Nevermind that the tech demo has 100% more chocobo-riding than FFXIV does 9 months after release. And for those of you thinking this is some kind of scam, please don't be so ignorant. That GRIN was working on Fortress is old news; this is like a year old and it's an undisputed fact. Just because you have never heard of it doesn't all of a sudden make it a conspiracy. It is truly sad to see the lengths some of you will go to defend your sense of pride in your choice of hobby.
To Me it sounds like the following happened.
Grin: Man we made a fortune doing that Bionic commando remake, I bet if we picked another ip and made a Game for it we could make even more.
Grin: Spend 6 Months working on a Concept to push to SE.
Grin: Hey Square? We've spent the last 6 months building a concept for a new Final Fantasy.
SE: Wut? Uh ok? Fax us the concepts and we'll go from there.
Grin: Sure... (Sends a bunch of stuff)
SE: This doesn't resemble Final Fantasy, Sorry.
Grin: Wait what about this. (Sends SE their own art)
SE: Listen I don't think you understand, maybe you should just stop?
Grin: Cry Cry Whine Whine bitch, SE didn't give us any money and now we have to close.
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
1 -> Revolutionized the RPG world
2 -> I know a lot of people who want to forget this one
3 -> Onion Knights fucking rock
4 -> Kain is now the trademark Dragoon in the series
5 -> Everybody loves Gilgamesh and it also had one of the most fun job systems
6 -> Had one of the best villains in the series and one of the most interesting plots (though sorta weird), a bit different from the others but similar to IV
7 -> You either love it or hate it, most people love it
8 -> I didn't like it but ok
9 -> My favorite one
10 -> This one is excellent but 12 isn't? Questioning your tastes
11 -> Very old school, very hardcore...not the best MMO at all but fun if you're into that thing
12 -> I liked this one and almost every critic loved it...it was even named the best PS2 and RPG by many sites and magazines (including GameSpot, GameSpy, IGN, and Famitsu)
13 -> I disliked it but that was personal preference. The story was ok but the characters made me ":I." Graphics were stunning and the new battle system was...interesting I guess. The only parts I disliked were the characters and the long hallways
14 -> Has great potential but we've yet to see what happens.
Don't assert your opinion as positive fact. FF is doing better now than they ever were in the past in terms of critical reviews and cash (not included: Final Fantasy XIV)

Every single final fantasy before 7 had a fairly open world (or multiple worlds).Almost every ff game has a very linear story/world where you can only go to a certain place when told to. Then after that can freely go to it. idm Spirits with in was a ff movie. You had cid, airships fantasy with technology and death of the main characters love interest. (all of which are the almost only reoccuring themes in ff games) Idm I didn't like most ff battle system. And more enjoy open world fighting much like Zelda or elder scrolls. PS <3 the spephy siggy (cloest sephy fangirl)

It was a moment of happiness for me when GRIN closed. The took an awesome tactical FPS franchise: GHOST RECON and drug it through the mud with GR:AW.
I played the crap out of GR when redstorm headed up the project, but when UBI gave it to GRIN..... It wasn't ghost recon.

Duh it had limitations, but you could go wherever you wanted before that and ignore the story completely and explore. At least for I, II, III, and V.

Learning something new every day! And this should be a sticky on the main page, haha.Silly, don't you know anything about human nature? People will go to great lengths to defend something they've spent money on, especially when they know it was a bad purchase or a waste of money. They actually did a study on it somewhere I wish I could remember right now that proved this. In fact they also proved that the worse they feel about the purchase, the harder they will try to justify it.
Because a professional game developer would do free work just for an initial pitch. They had a contract with SE and Yoichi Wada was involved right from the beginning. In fact, the game is still going to come out it has just changed developers, probably to Eidos Montreal. For someone taking a position to dispute something you're very short on facts.We are not disputing that Grin was working on a project it called Final Fantasy : Fortress.
