It is easy to bash other people.

But please be careful in your judgment. We are seeing only one side of what was obviously a bad experience for both parties.

"We wanted to come in and revolutionize Final Fantasy, which is exactly what they need," said the brothers. "The latest version sucks of course."
Going into a relationship with the intent to "revolutionize" the other party says something about their attitude and possibly how they treat their business partners.

At one point, SquareEnix requested the Anderssons send the code via fax. "It is as silly as it sounds. It is an impossible requirement, you can not send ascii or binary codes on the fax. It is backward. Really retarded. It was almost a criminal activity."
Just because SE is a game development company does not mean that everyone who works at SE is technically savvy.

Faxes are still widely used here in Japan, and it may have been an administrative assistant who made the request out of ignorance or inexperience.

Again. Saying the other company is "retarded" and their product "sucks" in public discourse does not speak very highly of their professionalism.

SquareEnix thought that their concept art didn't look like Final Fantasy, so the brothers decided to test them by sending concept art from Final Fantasy XII. As they had before, they responded with "It does not look like Final Fantasy."
They may have caught SE in a trap with that. Probably embarrassing for SE.
But again, it does not imbue me with respect for GRIN.

GRIN may be six feet under now, but their former staffers have formed other studios since the closure. It's possible we may see what they've been working on at E3.
Maybe they are technical wizards. Maybe they can make great games.
But they they are gone. That fact says a lot in itself.
