Question for the "its fun" people

ok I believe there needs to be progression and SOMETHING to achieve when you log in to keep people playing and having fun.
I keep seeing these people saying "YOU DONT NEED TO UPGRADE GEAR TO HAVE FUN"

i disagree i think you DO need to progress to have fun and have a reason to log in which is why i think 2.1 will really hurt this game.

I ask you guys this one question how many times a week do you log in and run Sastasha dungeon? because according to your logic you dont need to gain anything to enjoy the content and keep on running it over and over.

Doing sastasha for nothing vs doing ak/wp for tomes is an easy choice. But if there were other activities that did not involve gear/level progression, and were purely for enjoyment, people would do those in their downtime.

You don't need progression, generally, but it's the only thing going for this game at the moment. That's where the real problem is. The game needs other activities that people can just enjoy.

The entire game is built around having multiple jobs, not just one. If that is not your type of game there are many out there that you may find more enjoyable. CT will allow you to gear them up for Coil as well as your main, so in the event someone cannot make it or wants to play another class...BAM! - Job Change and you are ready to go!
While it appears you (the OP) have been lucky on coil drops many people have seen nothing MNK/DRG/Whatever the bane of your coil group is gear drop for weeks on end every single run. Crystal Tower will allow people to progress from DL or lower while waiting on the RNG gods to favor them on getting their Allagan pieces or saving up enough myth.

If this content had been released in the right order this point would have been moot, but I digress.

Why can't people just accept that everyone enjoys different things.

And with that in mind playing mmo's, sometimes your playstyle wins, sometimes it loses. Every patch is not going to be tailored to any given persons playstyle and it is just a matter of waiting for your time to come.

Am I bored as hell with ak/wp yep. Do I think this game is missing a chunk of content that should have been in before live, yep.
Am I going to sit and cry about it, nope.

Personally I find pvp to be a complete and utter waste of development time. But I recognize a lot of people play for that and accept that time will be deployed to that at the cost of my playstyle. I hold no grudge or ill will to those people who enjoy it.
But at the end of the day if this game doesn't develop in a timely fashion to my liking I will move on. I will not sit here and try to force my way down other peoples or the developers throat. Their game, their choice. My money, my choice if I help pay their salaries.

is nothing worth fighting for, though? Why can't we as dedicated players, want to have some say in how a constantly evolving game develops? The dev team, believe it or not, are just regular human beings. They can have good ideas and bad ideas. They should be able take criticism without shutting down and crying about it, and they could potentially see great ideas from their playerbase that they'll adapt into their game.

Why is just shutting up and either playing or quitting the only option for so many of you?

I'm an outlier in this, admittedly, but I've run Satasha, Tam-Tara, and CBM about 30 to 40 times the last three weeks or so. Why? I'm a rare-item collector: I run dungeons for the sole purpose of getting whatever rare items I can. Unfortunately, I had a string of bad luck when it came to obtaining the Foestriker's Mitts on my alt, but I eventually got my hands on them (followed a string of great luck with getting rare MRD weapons). Now, am I doing this for the best possible gear? No way, haha! I'm way beyond needing the Foestriker's set, but I had fun collecting it, helping people through their first dungeons, and I was happy when I finally finished it. It was certainly better than farming FATEs, I can tell you that.

But if I'm going to be honest, your question is loaded. You're assuming that your form of 'progression' is the only way (running harder content and getting the best possible gear). Unfortunately for you and others who see it that way and go about progressing that way, it eventually tapers off until there's nothing more to do because you've done everything you set out to do: you've cleared Coil, gotten all of your Allagan gear. There's nothing wrong with that, everyone has their own personal reasons for continuing to play, as well as why they play to begin with. But to assume that that is the only way is just wrong. There's leveling all of your jobs, maxing out Chocobo rank, crafting the best possible gear you can, making millions of gil, obtaining every achievement, helping out other people in your FC/LS, trying to find the best places to take screenshots, etc. As long as someone sets a goal for themselves and gets closer and closer to obtaining it, that's 'progression'. At least that's how I see it, anyway.

I agree with the idea behind what you're saying, but not with what you're actually saying. Progression is many things to many people. I'm more than happy to go a week without even switching to a Battle Class because crafting/gathering is my preferred method of progression at the moment, having completely burned myself out on dungeons. I've gotten a couple of relics at this point, a couple of Titan weapons for alt classes, and I've spent more Tomestones on gear/pets/crafting materials than I care to imagine, but I have yet to touch Coil and I have absolutely no desire to right now. Crystal Tower and the new dungeon/hard modes look pretty exciting to me, conversely.

As for "it's fun," that's also many things to many people. I like queueing up as a healer or a tank for lowbie dungeons to help people. I find it fun. I get nothing out of it other than an occasional thanks, and I'm completely okay with it. My item level doesn't need to increase every week for me to progress and enjoy the game. Maybe it's different for you. So it goes, and that's why options for everyone is a good thing.

Progression is subjective depending on individual. The general consensus is progression is seeing something go up in terms of numbers.

For you, it might be gear and item levels. For me, it's the level of my crafting classes, and also seeing the number of Coil eligible members (and groups) in my FC go up.
