It's good that they did, but that lore doesn't transfer over to ARR. It's too bad it doesn't though.
For the most part, this is about the localization. For example - even knowing what the original names are, I still get a different feel from playing the English client than I do from the Japanese one. Simply because you interact with spell names that carry different connotations on such a regular basis.

The names of the spells still shape the theme. Though the quests support the original names, it wouldn't be hard to go through the whole game not thinking of the Scholar as a military strategist but instead, something less pragmatic and more magical.
Especially for people who didn't play FFXI, like me.
