Secondly, parry check is preformed AFTER block check, so increasing your block rate lowers the number of attacks you can parry. This means the onion shield actually lowers your total parry mitigation, which is pretty bad since your parry mitigates more than your block does with the onion shield equipped. (Again, 24% vs 20%.)

So, with Zenith/Allagan: You block 24.74%, leaving a little over 75% of attacks you could parry. Multiply by chance to parry, then amount parried, and poof: 4.36% damage parried. + 6.79% from shield, 11.15% total mitigation.

Onion: You block 34.72% of attacks, leaving 65.28% of attacks you could parry, all said: 3.94% damage parried. 10.75% total mitigation.

You lose 0.4% by switching to onion shield.
You lose 0.4% total mitigation but gain about 10% of attacks blocked (at a cost of a proportional amount of those 10% of attacks not being parried), which I'd say is likely more valuable even if those blocks are weaker. The point is to make it more difficult for big spikes to kill you - total mitigation is nice but spike mitigation is nicer, and block/parry rate, not strength, is what helps spike mitigation.

That 0.4% is just going to be covered by what would otherwise be overheal anyway.

Well, talking about High Block Rate Shield devalued parry score. If we want highest mitigation score why not go for Direwolf Kite Shield. This would yield higher total mitigation score than Allagan Shield.

Direwolf Kite block at 36%+ of damage with Rate of 18%+
Onion block at 19%+ of damage with Rate of 34%+
Allagan/Zenith block at 27%+ of damage with Rate of 24%+

Assume parry at 15% of damage with Rate of 24%

    Average Mitigation on Direwolf = [ (0.36*0.18) + ((1-0.18)*(0.24)*(0.15)) ] * 100 = 9.432%
    Average Mitigation on Onion = [ (0.19 * 0.34) + ((1-0.34)*(0.24)*(0.15)) ] * 100 = 8.836%
    Average Mitigation on Allagan/Zenite = [ (0.27 * 0.24) + ((1-0.24)*(0.24)*(0.15)) ] * 100 = 9.216%

In my opinion, Onion shield with is much more healer friendly but I will farm myself for the Kite Shield anyway.

Sauteed Coeurl - 2Star SS Food (Tank BiS/Most expensive) Why?
    Source

An i90 PLD recently mentioned that once you reach i90, Sauteed Coeurl becomes the best Food due to the 1 point of Vitality gain. The added bennefits of Parry to an i90 PLD which the Finger Sandwhiches brings is very minute and does not outweigh the 1 point of VIT since more HP equates to increased survivability. I wanted to know what some of you guys think about this. Will you switch to Sauteed Coeurl moving foward?

This leads me to my 2nd question (Culinarian mostly). Why do you think that the only 2 star food in the game that required Philosophy matts (Cooking Sherry x10 = 125 Philosophy Tomes) is a Skill Speed Food? Could there be some hidden value here or do you think that its purely random that SE decided to make the most expenisve/valuable food a Skill Speed one?

I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Not sure if anyone has pointed this out yet, but you can turn this off now.

Under Character Configuration > Log Window Settings, there is an option "Display recast timer error message." Turning this option off will stop the "Not Yet Ready" text from showing up.

As picky as it may be, this was one of the reasons I disliked using macros.

Sry if this has been answered before but i could need some help with a macro for cover.
I want to let the party know when and on whom i am using cover, so this is what i am using:

    /macroicon "Cover"
    /ac "Cover" <t>
    /wait 1
    /group Using "Cover" on <t> <se.9>

The wait command is just in there in case i spam the button, the party chat doesnt get filled with text.
My problem however is, that when my target is out of range, the skill doesnt go off yet the message in chat still appears. Is there a way to avoid that?

Thanks for the aclaration. Reading what the text says if you mouse over the word Determination in your character, seeing attributes, I had thought (probably I had read it somewhere too) that determination affected physical and magical attacks, and heals (received, I thought, it seems it is casted only. Who thinks in casting when looking at a tank attributes? lol) I melded the highest determination materia to my Rose Gold ring... :-( Well, you can't meld the attributes it already has (VIT, parry, accuracy) but probably strength would have been a better option, for the parry, block, etc.

Stoneskin, Mercy Stroke, Bloodbath, Foresight, Fracture/Cure/Raise. Last slot is basically a toss up of whether you want a situational increase in DPS or a really low potency Cure. Can't use Raise in combat, but you can Raise people after a battle for fun. :P
