When you can save enough gil I suggest investing in the leather war garb set's, at your rank starting with dodo. They are great and last a while. I also could use the same set for ranking up lancer and gladiator.

If you are planning to be a main job archer, I would suggest putting some time down on leveling carpenter, even if you don't craft your own weapons, you can at least maintain your bow (with the exception of the calvary bows, most require a crp to repair.) as for gear, you may want some rings to start with, probably copper or brass, these will help your accuracy. Also if you haven't done so yet, you should do the first main storyline quest, it will unlock your second r1 ability for each job, in arc's case you'll get close shot, (close range attack w chance to bind) you'll find it useful when soloing until you get shadowbind at least.
ignore them, join a real linkshell and start getting your nm gear, Eternal shade for body, Quickfingers bow, The gloves from cactus jack and i enjoy the hat from the dodo beside jack
If you do this then gearing will not be a issue ever
Lots of great nightmare gear for archer so go for those
You mean gloves from Old-Six Arms (Venerer's Bracers) as Cactuar Jack doesn't drop gloves and by hat from Gluttonous Gertrude do you mean the Velveteen Beret? That's the only real Archer hat she drops, the specific NM drop is the Glad shield.
