It's heartening to see server-related issues being addressed. I hope that there more in 1.19.

And how do you tell the difference between someone who lost their connection and someone who disconnected it themselves?
How do you tell the difference between someone who force closed the app and someone who crashed?
Personally I wouldn't mind if it worked that way, but I guess it could be annoying for people who share accounts. Which is a legitimate thing to do in my opinion. Most mmos simply handle this issue by booting any instance of that character when attempting to log in.
Which shouldn't be an issue as no one else should be logging into your account.
I think it was handled in this manner even in 11, but been a while so i can't remember for sure.
And I'm almost certain it wasn't handled that way in XI. At least I sometimes had to wait a few seconds after reconnecting because my character wasn't completely logged out yet.
Great news that they finally got rid of the bug either way ~
I would guess that they are able to collect that information. Well at least the difference between a crash and a force quit. To issue different restrictions on a case by case basis would be pretty tough though. ^^
Idk, it could come into play in terms of future content, such as, PvP, card game (Triple Triad).
If it is a bug then it is one that has been with FF11 since launch, ^^
Download my iPad app on the App Store http://bit.ly/10QMy4C ^^
This is awesome =D
I think Eorzea just split in half from the awesome~ness of this info! Thanks again Bayohne! When you are disconnected you should be able to log back in within a minute. However, due to a bug that was discovered, certain data is being retained on the server that makes it think the character is still logged in, regardless of whether you were disconnected or not. This then causes the phenomenon to occur that stops you from being able to log in for up to 10 minutes.
Sorry for the time it took for us to discover a resolution to this, but this will finally be fixed in patch 1.19.

Finally! Since I have probs with my Connection and sometimes timeout alot this will let me finally play more, well done! When you are disconnected you should be able to log back in within a minute. Finally! This is the best news we received till now.
Now i want the second news: if a player crashes during dungeon or a battle, he will be able to log back in and join his party.
