    Is my EXP bonus automatic?

    So, I am told that you get a 50% bonus while leveling a class when you have another class at least two levels ahead of them, and that certainly applies when you have one class at level 50.

    I assumed that this exp bonus is automatic, but to be honest I am not noticing a significant boost on my WHM, even while FATE grinding with rested EXP. I saw someone say something about syncing in order to get the extra EXP, but I am not sure what that means exactly.

    So, what is the deal?

    From what I understand, which may not be 100% accurate...

    The extra XP is on anything that will trigger the use of rested XP bonus. If you have no rested xp, then you would just see +50% as your bonus. I.e. if you see "You gained 1042 (+65%) experience points," then the +65% would include the +50% bonus you get from having a level 50 character and you would have +15% from some other source. This includes bonuses from other sources such as rested xp, a chain bonus, or food experience boosters. Essentially, if you have a level 50 character you will always see at least a +50% bonus on any monster you kill if it grants experience.

    Since quest and fate experience does not trigger the use of rested XP, it does not gain the 50% experience bonus. You would still get the 50% bonus for any monsters you kill during a quest or fate, just not on the final lump sum reward for completion.

    Crafting and gathering jobs do not gain this bonus either, I believe. Whether as a higher level job granting a bonus or a lower level receiving the bonus.

    There might be a sliding scale of bonus as well where you don't have a level 50 job, but do have a job that is only a few levels higher than the one you are on resulting in a smaller bonus. This might also be the case if you have a 50 job and you're gaining experience on a job in the 45-49 range as well. I haven't tested or bothered to notice that yet.

    Edit: Just confirmed some aspects via testing. Using a brand new character as well as a character from 1.0 with mostly level ones except for a couple level 50 jobs and a handful of 10ish jobs that I haven't touched in 2.0 until this test. Neither character had rested xp, both started today as level 1 Arcanists in Limsa Lominsa and both completed the same starting quests and killed the same level 1 wharf rat outside the Zephyr gate.

    Level 1 only character:
    Quest = 50xp
    Map exploration 15xp
    Rat killed = 50xp
    Total xp = 115/300

    Level 1 character with level 50 job:
    Quest = 50xp
    Map exploration = 15xp
    Rat killed = 75xp (+50%)
    Total xp = 140/300

    I.e. the bonus xp is only rewarded on kills, not completion rewards.

    Hm? Doesn't this +50% XP bonus also apply to FATE's though?

    I could be mistaking but I remember usually getting something like 12k for The Couerl King fate in South Shroud, but when I went there to level up alt-classes I got something like 16k XP for gold.

    However I too felt that the leveling was slow regardless. I think this is a mere placebo effect, since when we level our first character everything is new, there's quests to do, hunting logs to do and more.
    Where as we've done them all on our first 50, we're now just going back and repeating everything we'd done already making it seem slower since it's the same content we aren't as interested in as we once were.

    Yes, the 50% bonus applies to FATEs. It does not apply to quests.

    If you look at the dialogue box, it will say that you were rewarded with ##### (+50%) experience points each time you complete a FATE. The +50% is included in the number displayed. You can only get +50% for FATE completion -- there are no chain bonus or rested XP bonuses for FATEs.

    Rested XP applies only direct gain from combat, crafting, or gathering. Any one-time bonuses (FATE completion, bonus for new items crafted or gathered, quest XP) are not affected by the Rested bonus. The Rested bonus is additive with the level bonus, so leveling a third job with rested XP should give you +100% per kill, plus food (+103%) and any chain bonuses (+153%, for example).
