Forget IL for dungeon requirements, do this instead.

Instead of having a gear requirement to get into a dungeon via dungeon finder, if you want to unlock a dungeon you should have to do a single player scenario where you have to do x amount of dps, heal a certain amount, or survive for x amount of time while dodging enemy aoes (if you get hit 3 times you have to start over), sort of like a mini boot camp. This way, if people want to run a dungeon they can at least perform at a minimum level for the dungeon.

So we would need to repeat an single player instance on every job on every dungeon?

If it has a different role, then yes. If you have a drg and a whm, you should have to do it with each class because they have totally different jobs inside a dungeon.

Neither really force you to learn anything. The one that teaches you to pull only one pack of mobs can be tanked by any job pulling everything.

Smarter, more forceful training instances would be nice. And ya know what? Make them give good exp. I'd *so much rather* a person got to 50 exclusively doing that than exclusively doing fates because pressing your aoe doesn't teach you anything about playing your class, like the whm at ifrit today that popped a medica 2 before the pull, I told the warrior to wait til til it wore, but he pulled and whm was dead within 5 seconds and then the whm, scrubby little nub, had the nerve to say "dat tanking". I replied with "dat medica 2"

Shield Lob (Can change red text to Tomahawk and it will work perfectly Warriors)
    /macroicon "Shield Lob"
    /ac "Shield Lob" <t>
    /marking attack1 <t>

Better "macro switching", give it a read: http://tinyurl.com/ffxivhotbars

So if you can play one DPS you can play them all? And if you have one geared job, any jobs of a similar type should be allowed in regardless of gear?

Overall this seems like a very flawed idea.

You are right, it should be for each job and each role of that class (although the role part only applies to summoners).

As for the gear part, if you can't beat the boot camp because your gear with one job is lower than the other job, then you need more gear for that job.

The problem with class quests isn't that people don't pay attention, it's that they're implemented/tuned badly.

For example the Marauder class quests have absolutely nothing about tanking.

Gladiator class quest you can get through a whole fight with just 1 Flash, after that it's always better to use Riot Blade (dps over enmity) to clear the quest.

In the later tanking class quests, it's always a quick death for you if you try to tank all the enemies. So for a newbie who believes the classes quests, he will always be "tanking" only single target, with Riot Blade (or basically the highest dps attack) as his main attack---i.e. the worst tank one can possibly hope for.

Conjurer quests you're just spamming stone, and the only one where you can try to heal NPCs, you get pounced on by water sprites and the NPCs ignore you. In the end you gotta Stone the sprites if you even want to stay alive. In others you get healed by an NPC and you're expected to just deal damage to clear the battles.

The classes quests are more story than training. In terms of training value, class quests are a complete failure in implementation.
