240 sounds low. With my drg using IL 50-55 gear (except 1 DL ring) I do 195-205 dps on boss fights.
A note about the parsers... Sometimes they get bugged and you can't just look at the dps number. Instead look at the dps and the total damage done. Sometimes (for me at least) it will show someone doing say 120 dps with 20,000 dmg and another person doing 150 dps with 20,000 dmg.

And my DL DRG does same damage as +1 relic/AF+1/Allagan BRD. Sometimes i do less, sometimes more.
So i don't know...maybe DRG isn't for you; and i don't know about that *perfect rotation*
Also BRD does AOEs better, and your DPS will look bloated because of that.
Then there's the fact, that people always overestimate the effect of gear. If i went from relic/DL->Full-iLv90, by damage would go up by 30%. So instead of doing 100k dam in 10min, you'd do 130k instead.
Because of RNG, a relic/tox BRD, can in some cases do more damage than relic+1/70-90 geared BRD. (which i did on more than 1 occasion) So it's not all DRG vs BRD, Same thing between 2 BRD, or 2 DRG.
The biggest problem with T4, is that DRG needs to move more than BRD, and can't attack as much....which is why they are buffing DRG/MNK in 2.1...

Wait, are you guys talking 300 burst-dps? (fully buffed) or sustained dps, over several min?

Well, OP described the his problem as DPS on the first Dreadnought only. So roughly 30-45 seconds of damage.

Parsers, the reason a lot of us SMN are misunderstood...

This is why parsing is incorrect, because it checks the chat logs for damage, adds them up and works out dps from the length of the fight, but if you use DoTs (and you should where possible) they add to your dps, but no parser will ever see it, as it's not recorded in the chat log, therefore parsers tell half the story. The gears on Bards have all DEX and your attributes are all DEX which adds to accuracy. I am accuracy capped with those gears on bard for T4.
The PUG we brought ran the parse multiple times. Our BLM ran a different parse multiple times. They were consistent.
We were also able to get the Dreadnaught down in the same amount of time on my BRD compared to my DRG.
The parse is correct.

Both LogRep and FFXIV-APP extrapolate DOT damage very accurately now. What they do miss out on however are ground effect spells like Flaming Arrow and Shadow Flare.

recap the fail:
dex does not affect acc
acc cap in coil for mele is at least 472 (so your brd is not capped)
brd brings more support skills
drg gives you access to mele LB
dps on dummy is the same as dps on dread (removing the acc restriction of coil)
brd rotation is dumb as shi--, i can play brd slamming my face into my keyboard and do more dps than alot of well geared players
drg rotation is very complex in comparison to brd, drg skill ceiling is much higher 20% dmg boost is going to make a good drg godlike
brd bust dmg is by far the easiest to master, you should be able to overtake your brds 45sec dps burst on drg but only if you are doing things optimally.
my group has a max geared drg and he sat at #2 on the hatelist for twintania from start to finish of conflags
I would suggest going brd till they nerf it since its just so much easier and partially based on your posts in this thread.
