I like FATEs and I like the fact that 2.2 will increase exp given by dungeons. This should balance more the gameplay.

fixed that for you.
personally, i think the problem with FATEs are that i can see them on the map, and thus always know when they "pop"
i would rather they not be on the map at all, so they are situational rather than a convenience
There is no challenge in Fate
it doesn't teach you how to play your job and its too frequent (it should only be an XP buffer not a method of level'ing)
dungeons still takes too long to Q up for especially when your a DD and when your done you have to re-Q up which makes it inefficient
The level'ing system is so bad in this game that I don't look forward when lvl cap increases and/or they release a new class/job
Its really really bad
Meh. After chasing fates for a couple weeks now, I've come to a few conclusions about what needs to be adjusted.
1- Spawn rates - They spawn too fast and too many. Slow them down a bit and adjust it so that there is only 1 fate up at a time. Maybe spawning every 10-15 minutes.
2- XP Awards - SOME of the FATEs need their XP lowered and some need it raised. Most XP awards are reasonable.
3- Monetary Awards - Needs to be raised quite a bit. Say, 2x for bronze, 5x for Silver and 10x for gold. Based on current awards.
Yeah, I would like this. Heck, they can keep the mind numbing FATES but can they least give us this? I don't see what is so horrible and bad about force pop NM/HNM. The JP's want it very badly too..and have since Beta. SE usually takes what they say seriously so...*cross fingers* ^^
Lol this makes me very sad...because FATES consist of nothing but spam whatever you can and every man for himself. Nice gameplay. :3
I see what you are saying about finding the other FATE's that no one bothers with...but none of them are challenging or even come close to how difficult force pop NM/Fraction level NM were in 1.0. I've soloed all the FATES on my WAR. =X Well cept Behemoth and Odin lol.

I agree with the OP, that FATES are crappy as they are, I also agree with other posters that FATES are an interesting, interactive, MMO feature.
I think the problem with FATES as they are is that it's just a spam fest to get your max contribution, and fast XP. They would be better if they required a high level of skill or strategy. Like: limit the number of player that can participate somehow, add lots of instant death mechanics, require a high level of coordination.
In Everquest Online Adventures for PS2, there was a open world boss that spawned called "avatar of love" or something like that. I don't know if the location or time was random or scheduled, but it sort of reminds me of the way FATES pop up now and then. Anyway, the mechanic that made her extremely difficult was that she healed to full if ANYONE used a physical attack on her during a certain phase... In other words, if players weren't coordinated and strategic they couldn't beat her.
IMO open world bosses are a distinctive MMO component that WoW completely failed to implement, AND an opportunity for FFXIV to really shine. FATES could be the vehicle, with a bit of tweaking.
FATEs are the necessary evil of having the ability to play all classes on one toon. If they weren't there then you would be bitching about having to farm dungeons... or if the quest were repeatable then you would be bitching about having to repeat the same boring quest.
As for world bosses that require tagging by your alliance to participate in... SE cant figure out how to make alliances... so idk how you think it would work. Proof of this is you wont be able to duty finder 24 ppl for CT.
So, to the OP it seems like xiv isnt for you go play xi
This sounds like a great idea but easily abused too. Surely you had lots of trolls surrounding this "avatar of love" sending her to full HP as soon as she was nearly dead. Probably better to have the person who does the physical damage to instantly die and heal the mob by the amount of their max HP or something. In Everquest Online Adventures for PS2, there was a open world boss that spawned called "avatar of love" or something like that. You people are crazy. Fates are fracking awesome. I've had way more fun grouping and scrambling to do Fates than most dungeon content with PUG's which are typically excruciatingly painful. It is waaaaaaay better than having to solo grind junk mobs for that bit of XP in between levels that quests don't cover. Please don't change a thing. =p
The Duty Finder could really use some TLC, wait an hour to have some craptastic tank that moves like a turtle roll greed on all the cloth gear, Ugh. There needs to be some kind of player rating that could be used as a grouping mechanic.
CHRIST. These feeds are getting so old. If you don't like the game, don't play. Nobody is forcing you to play at rape point.
