I like FATEs enough, but I really miss hunting down NMs on the open plains...
So it's less about FATEs and more about a change to big bosses like Odin and Behemoth?
As long as the most efficient way to level is to spam fates then fate content is trivialized.
As long as the only rewards for NMs is the same as the rewards for every other fate NMs are trivialized.
As long as HNMs provide no tangible challenge or reward HNMs are trivialized.
Since all of the above fall under fate the whole of the fate experience is trivial.
This isn't just about Odin and Behemoth.
It's about a failure in general for fates to provide a meaningful gaming experience.
As I said in an earlier post, I really don't see SE ditching fates. Too much of the game is built around them. But they need to make fates better. Part of that will happen when people can experience Odin and behemoth without the servers imploding, or when everyone participating can see all of the fate mobs. Or when there are viable alternatives to fate grinding for experience so that fates aren't inundated with mobs of people more interested in maximizing exp gains than experiencing the actual content of the fates. And when that content itself is worth experiencing as content rather than as a vehicle for quick exp.
Ok, let me spell it out nice and simple for you.
1. They spent money making and developing the FATE system, getting rid of it = loads of money wasted from the dev team and money already spent is now worthless and possibly new money will be spent on a new system.
2. people that actually like fates get pissed, people pissed off = people leave SE loses future money
See the common denominator here? Money, yes SE does have to make money. No money = No game
Need it dumbed down anymore?
that about sums it up.
The game was shut down because it was terrible, that's the reason.Because it is completely unheard of for someone to like something you think is trash. Wait... isn't that what Spartacus_Owen is saying about FATEs and you're saying the opposite?
In the later stages of 1.0 the game was actually really good, odd and slow UI aside. It was deemed a failure for the launch at 1.0, not for its ending before being taken down for a remake (which they only did because they had such a poor launch, if it had launched how it was just before 1.0 ended, it'd have been met with less criticism).
THE REASON. lol
If you nerf the rewards then no one runs them. Not only was it a waste of developer effort, but now it becomes a blight across the map as all players find countless active fates ticking down with no one bothering to complete them (I already see this plenty). Players retreat to dungeons for not only gear but also experience, making the world look even more barren. The content is left ignored, completely trivialized in every sense.
I was heavily farming dungeons until a week ago, but frankly its even less enjoyable to do than farm fates. Farming dungeons was prone to hysteric group members and a weak loot system, and I started crafting because dungeons were so bad. In farming fates, I've actually found the content to be enhanced, if only because I'm being exposed to it. And frankly, anything to make leveling go faster is fine by me, because there are so many bars to grind.

honestly, i played ffxi, i loathed the HNM system, and most of the NMs in it, mainly because of the time it took for some of them, like fafnir as one of many examples........72 hours of camping for a couple of items.....id rather have very challenging fights i can enter any time and have a decent chance to get something worthwhile, not camp a notorious monster that spawns every 4 hours with a 7% drop rate
I've come to a realization. No matter how much you beg for FATEs to go away, get nerfed or adjusted, people are gunna raise holy HELL about said proposals. People do NOT want their 'easy-buttons' monkied around with. So I've just quit bothering with it.
Why hate FATES. If you wanna a long hard grind to level then you can just do it the traditional way.
Nobody forces you to do them

See I am the opposite. I despise FATE farming and quite enjoy dungeon running for exp. Frankly I find fates boring and trivial and with all the blm spamming blizzard2 it also becomes annoying. Leveling should be enjoyable but everyone enjoys different things. The only issue I have with fates is ppl use them to burn up their jobs then have no idea how to play them. Fates have their ups and downs but for me its mostly downs.
SE is relying too much on the fate system and, as usual, completely underestimating their audience's abilities due to listening too closely to the vocal few.
