    Stop lying to your groups

Okay I keep seeing this on the forums and seriously I have to say this:

“You can pretend to be experienced.”

    Or

“Just lie and say you know the fight”

Is the absolute WORST advice you can give people…

    No.

    Seriously.

I’m not kidding and here’s why.

This is something I’ve seen and heard of happening in not just coil but generally all instanced content at one point or another ranging from Amdapor Keep to HM Titan, and it’s really just bad form to be honest.

Now before I go on I already know there will be a few dozen “I’ve done it and got this and this and did just fine because I’m an awesome player and learn things quickly etc etc etc”

Yeah, we get it, nobody is denying it’s possible but it’s VERY FAR FROM THE NORM, please keep this in mind.

    First and foremost:

it’s insulting, I’m not asking if you’ve done the fight before to kick you (something that can’t be done until 2.1 anyway) or find a reason not to take you (Titan premade), or w/e your fears may be, I’m asking so that I can INFORM you if you need to watch out for something or to help the REST of the party adjust and let them know that THEY may need to keep an eye out for certain things.

Maybe you don’t know Titan rotation? That’s cool it’s your first time I get it you want your relic no big deal that’s what duty finder is for and we’ve ALL been there.

How about you say so? So that the healers will pay more attention and be quicker to toss out a cure if they need to in order to cover for the plume that you’re going to eat at some point.

Don’t tell me you won’t, I just saw it, and by the way you’re moving guess what?

I NOW KNOW THIS IS YOUR FIRST TIME AND YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHATS GOING ON.

You don’t need to be Sherlock or Batman to figure that out in all of two seconds.

    What’s that? Don’t dig that scenario? Okay Here’s one…

Amdapor keep because y’know that one is easy right?

“You guy’s all know Demon Wall right?”

    “Dead silence”

About 30 seconds later y’know what I just got to see?

    You.

    Flying off of the edge.

Due to the repel you had no idea was coming.

After you ate every purple line that came up before it.

    See the problem here?

Do you think the rest of your group won’t notice?

Pro tip: The more complex content becomes (mechanics wise) the easier it is to spot people who haven’t attempted said content before.

Do yourself AND your group a favor, LET US KNOW

“Have you all done such and such before?”

“No, I have a vague idea of what’s supposed to happen but I’ve never attempted it before is there anything I should be wary of?”

At this point I think “wow this person is cool” I no longer care how much damage you eat or how many times you die because you just showed willingness to learn and try something; seriously mad props to you, you’re a rock star.

Oh and since I know this is coming I’ll address this as well:

“But I don’t say anything / lie because shout groups are asking for Relic +1 Pomeranians experienced in advanced fire hoop jumping and all I know how to play is the tuba”

Yeah well I hate to break it to you, but... that’s kind of their choice..

Rule of thumb: The ONLY group you are entitled to be a part of is the one you have created yourself.

You may not like that answer, in fact I’m sure quite a few people will hate that answer but it’s true.

If shout groups / Duty Finder aren’t giving you the results you’re hoping for or the space to breathe, well nothing is stopping you from creating a group yourself is there?

And I’m sure those who are new to content wont place the same restrictions on their own groups as the ones that have been turning them away right?

    They are experienced alright.

Experienced at eating Weight of the Land, landslides or repelling cannons.

I got enough hitpoints for titan! - That way when I eat all the plumes and bombs, the healer can just heal me through it. if I die it's the healers fault! /sarcasm.

Yeah it always amazes me how many "experienced" titan groups you can join where half the team doesn't make it to heart phase.

Another Pro-Tip: Not all jobs play the same, if you beat Titan as a PLD you don't know the fight as a DRG or a WHM. Basically you should spend some time in the DF to get it down for that job before you waste other peoples time. Also thanks you unavoidable stomp damage it does not matter how good you are as a player, get some decent gear or you become a liability.

As for your example regarding the wall, I think we've all bared witness to the 5-sec delay after Repel when you go back to your lane and see someone flying for no reason. Basically you should not lie about having done the content but if you are going to lie (which you shouldn't) at least watch some videos and read up on the fight beforehand.

I had counter that a lot of time, ppl always insult me or rage mode or w/e you name it right after I ask if they are new, some even say "because of my gear ?". Hell it doesnt take long to know if someone is new base on their action.

I agree people shouldn't lie. That being said, why don't you play with people who you've had experience with before. If you don't want that happening then play with people who you know won't do things like that to you.

Anytime I join a pug, I am cautious of everyone. I don't automatically assume just because they say they are that they indeed really are. I've played with people who are great players and just have bad days, but I know they can do it. That day might be theirs. You might have had one of those bad days. I've had them before. There are also times when people have different strategies or do things another way. Like ADS T2. I've beat ADS with my statics way, but I'm not sure if I were to pug it, how they would do things. It helps for me to expect errors to happen regardless then to assume everyone knows their job and what they do.

For some reason, anytime I see "Pro Tip" it bothers me.

    Asking so they can explain?

You make up about 1% of people, most ARE asking so they cannot invite me!!

Actually i do, most anything i do progression-wise I'll mostly do with friends or the FC I'm in simply because those are people i know and like to play with, however i do also like to queue into the DF to help out on things or to have some fun with pickups, i just hate to see people turning perfectly good setups and winnable runs on their head and wipe for about an hour before they finally speak up and say "Sorry I haven't done this before" I wont even need the win but I'll feel bad for the people who do because they were essentially robbed of a fighting chance.
