Sometimes people lie because they don't wanna hear/see:
    - People cry.
    - People leave the group.
    - People insulting you.

Would be cool if we had more nice people in this game so people won't have to lie
and willing to help out and not rage in your face all the time if you make
a single mistake. I mention it's my first time and you still have crybabies.

I've always been up front and honest about what I have and have not done in coil. For the most part, they just want you to have relic+1 and a myth piece or two. Most have to explain their strat at the beginning of each tier since there are many different ways to do the bosses (especially t2 and t4). Stacking for rot, passing the whole time, and what order to kill the enemies in for t4.

    I totally agree.

I never lie though, if people wanna be jerks then they'll do that without me. I'd rather not play than having to cope with obnoxious individuals. And even if it's worse here than in many other games (including WoW where people were much nicer on average, in my personal experience during years of play), there still are some awesome people here. You just have to find them, either through a nice FC, or by looking for PUG's a bit longer than the usual, not hesitating to leave (or be asked to) if people don't want to be nice to newbies.

Agreed. The idiots in my last FC told me to lie about having experience on turn 1 in a PUG because they didn't want to bother helping me with it.

I've gotta agree: if it's your first time running the dungeon, tell your party that. Even if you've run it a dozen times as a Dragoon, if you're tanking it for the first time, you tell your party "Hey, it's my first time tanking this dungeon. I know the fights, but bare with me here." It's just common decency, and 90% of the time people will be okay with it. And it also sets a good example for the others, because a lot of times the other party members will chime in if they're new, too, and that openness makes the run feel much nicer.

I understand that for vets in Coil or against HM Primals it can be a slog to have to re-explain everything for the thirty-seventh time, and you just wanna run through it as quickly as possible. But if I'm gonna be completely honest, those couple minutes you spend explaining the fight may very well mean you don't waste the next 30 wiping before a victory, and can be well on your way through your second Titan fight.

A perfect example was when a FC member and I were farming Myth tomes in AK and WP for a couple hours. Neither of us had Allagan pieces or Myth gear, so we weren't planning on speed runs. Well, lo and behold we get into WP with a WHM and SMN decked out in Allagan pieces and Relic+1's. They ask us if we're doing a speed run, and we casually answer, "Sure, why not?", which we meant as 'quickly kill everything and unlock the doors ASAP.' Well, those two weren't pleased with us because we didn't kill the first two Tonberries fast enough, nor anything else, and they proceeded to insult my friend until we killed the first boss. He got fed up and left, and they followed soon after. Not a minute later the party fills back up and we complete the dungeon about five minutes before their lockout timers are up--not speed-running, and I think we actually wiped to the flan boss, too. If those two hadn't been "MYTH TOMBS NAO!!1", and had been just a little more patient we'd have all finished the run without a fuss, and they'd all be running again.

Well, if more people were as welcoming to new players (of an instance) as you are, there's a chance that less people would be lying like this. :/

I, myself, have no problem teaching people what to look out for or what not, as long as they're willing to learn.

When I tank Titan HM. I always ask whether or not someone is new to this. 99% of time, the chat box would remain silence for 5-10 second. So I would just start the fight. And very quickly everyone would realize who is new to Titan.Cause simply his or her Hp bar would become empty right after the first weight of land or the first jump.

It is just like op said. We asked because we are trying to make the new players to become a experienced player, not because we try to kick the new players out or simply quit the DF if there is an inexperienced player in the group. So please let us help you so you can help us.

Honestly this debate is just an endless cycle unless one of the factors disappear, preferably the mean yelling ditcher-types.

    1. New people would love to tell you they are new, but can't because of the above types.
    2. Some of you are not the above types, but we can't know that beforehand now can we.

    Stalemate.

Actually there's one alternative solution: Make macros stating you would like to know if anyone is a new, so you can help etc, sprinkle it with smileys to make em feel safe. Because after all a new person can't be the one to initiate this with something like "Would you mind if someone told you they were new? Me? Oh, no, totally not me." xD
