I just don't see where this lag is coming from. My FC and other friends have killed Titan at least 12 over that past 2 days to get member their relic and do some Titan farm for alt classes. 2 of my friends tether off their cell phones and still manage just fine.

Not saying lag doesn't exist, but it's not always SE's fault either and most of what titan does can be dodged even with lag if you anticipate the attack.
If *teaching* him was just to tell him to start moving before the attack (I.E. anticipate it), then you're just giving him a band aid to the real problem.

There are some simple things you can try to reduce lag on your end, since doing anything about lag on SE's end will take time if they even do something about it (because time and money).

    - Turn graphics settings to Standard
    - Go to Character Config -> Control Settings -> Character -> set Battle Effect Settings for Party to Show Limited or Show None
    - Shut down any teamspeak software
    - Shut down BitTorrent
    - Close your Internet browser
    - Turn off any streaming services
    - Shut down iTunes

After that, or if you've already done all of that, you can try more extreme measures (such as subscribing to a VPN, setting up a VLAN for yourself in your own home, paying for faster Internet, etc.), but those are beyond SE's recommended requirements for the game and shouldn't be done if you don't want to.

Shutdown your browser?? Pay for faster internet?? Where do you get this advice?

ARR uses at most, and I mean the very peak of their throughput on the client end is 10KB down, and less then 5KB up. Any remotely modern network connection can play this game, though the latency might be an issue.

Shutdown teamspeak? Teamspeak will use 2-3x as much bandwidth as ARR. Again, any modern network connection can handle the throughput of both of those at the same time.

Also, why would you not first ask what kind of FPS they get while under heavy particle effects? If they are sitting at 60 solid FPS under the heavy graphic load, turning settings down is not going to change one thing.

If I get hit by anything from Titan, I just blame lag even though I don't lag on Titan.

May I suggest people stop using the term lag for this problem? Connection lag is a completely different thing, this would be better served by using Latency or something like it instead.

With Lag your game would freeze intermittently until it loaded what is going on, so you'd have very choppy gameplay.

With Latency (tentative name) your gameplay is fluid, but the server takes more time to register whatever you are doing and delivering information back to you. Example, you see the red circle and move out, but even though you left in time you are still being hit by the attack. However your game never froze or sped up to catch up like it happens with lag but instead the server didn't even know you were out of the danger zone already and thus counted it as a hit.

YoshiP stated that position (and many other things... question mark?) is updated in a .3 second basis and that they can't apply a faster check to everything because their puny servers wouldn't be able to handle the load BUT they will apply this fix to fights like Titan, so it's already being addressed anyway. XD

Q2: You have said that in FFXIV: ARR, the character's position is checked by the server once every 0.3 seconds. However there are times where the character receives AoE damage even though the character on the screen is outside of the range. Seems like the information on character's position is not up to date. Is there any plan to make an adjustment to this?
A2: If we apply faster response times in all areas, the load on the servers will be too much. Therefore, while it will only be for certain areas (for example high-level content and the Wolves' Den), you will be able to notice the faster response times. Please stay tuned!

If you have frame lag, upgrade your hardware. If you have connection lag, use a tunneling VPN (ex. WTFast) to improve your connection.

Just killed Titan 2 times for a couple of LS mates. No problems what so ever.

Shutdown ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that can interfere with your game. Every little thing. If you're having problems with lag, you need to do whatever you can on your own end because SE's end isn't changing anytime soon.

When you go to a website, do you notice the Flash ads that play in the background? Those eat into your system resources. Faster internet is an EXTREME MEASURE and

Apparently modern network connections CAN'T handle the throughput of both because

When you have lag without TeamSpeak, adding TeamSpeak will just kill you. If you're lagging while under TeamSpeak, shutting down TeamSpeak can save you a huge amount of bandwidth. Don't get so tied up in your love affair with VoIP that you miss the Landslide because you just can't handle not talking.

FPS is WHOLE other ballgame on client-side and server-side predictions, and even then you can still get shot in the head two seconds after passing by a window with a sniper that shot you two seconds ago and you never noticed. Because lag.

Not every system is created equal. Just because yours can handle it, don't expect others to be able to as well. And if you're getting any lag at all, your system CANNOT handle it. At least try to do something about it on your own end because no matter how much SE wants to do something about it they will take months on their end at the least before they do get it done.

This is the type of lag I get (the rubberbandy freeze and everything catching up and then I'm magically dead half the time) as I get practically 0 server latency due to being very close to NA servers. Believe it or not, resetting my modem resolves the problem completely every single time. I also try not to have any background programs running like bittorrent or anything like that. I believe this type of lag is mostly on the user's end rather than SE's. Hope this helps
