Blame the Player not the Game.
Blame the Player not the Game.
In all my raiding teams we had a rule that basically translates as "Useful TS" (from french).
It means: everybody must be SILENT during the fights UNLESS they have something battle-related to say (asking for a BRD song, coordinating with the other healer to take care of a bad situation without letting the tank die, warning others that I have no more def cooldowns as a tank, announcing something when you've been assigned to watch a specific mechanics like stacks number, etc.)
only the raid leader is supposed to speak more "freely", and even that person should make it efficient and to the point, or it will break concentration too much. Lack of concentration = perfect recipe for a wipe-fest.
Most people hate being distracted during fights, and I'm one of those people. Plus it kills my immersion and I hate that. All I need is battle-related information to perform my role correctly.

“Focus on the journey, not the destination.
Joy is found not in finishing an activity but in doing it.”
Question...
What if you're deaf or hard of hearing?
nvm someone posted above with a worthy response.
i just hope anyone doesn't alienate someone because they can't hear or even speak.

The things you mentioned can be written on the chat. There's enough time to do that, and it's probably better since everyone can read it again and again (while spoken words are easily missed).i would recommend you to at least max level one of your battle classes before further commenting on this. coil requires comms to clear. or you'll spend weeks wiping on the same turn. its a fact. like i said, its the difference between clearing a turn or wiping endlessly just cuz nobody knows what they're supposed to do or why they wiped.
Yeah, another reason I hate using Mumble is because half the people sound like they have cheetos in their mouth when they talk (they probably do, actually). A lot of people actually talk worse than they type.
Yes yes, hence my quick edit. You don't read threads before you post, do you?
Post #68 right above, my personal experience. Also people with hearing impairment are about 20‰ in the general population (exactly 9 to 22 out of 1000, depending on how you rate it), so it's just not that common. People not wanting to use VC out of principle… much more prevalent.
I was just concerned.
Of all the replies on this topic, this one sentence caused me to fume. I have Mumble, Teamspeak and Ventrilo downloaded on this very pc and I log into them as required. As a deaf person, I have no use or need for voice chat as it still takes me watching a youtube video or another player typing out the specifics in order for me to learn what to do. Some raids I am dropped because of it and some raids they have the patience to tough it out.
That "divide" you speak of is NOT self imposed. People who think and believe like YOU imposed it.
I absolutely hate when people pull the disability card out, as one who has a disability I despise you for playing that card. I don't go touting my disability to try and win an argument or insult people, how shameful. Regardless as you stated you have them, you may not be able to use them as those that are not deaf can. I applaud you even installing them. However this thread is going on the premise that people CAN use them but choose not to, not that they CAN'T use them, which is why the issue is self imposed. If we want to play the disability card since its now on the table, one of my MT's in EQ2 only had one usable hand, yet managed to Main tank in top tier X4 raids while communicating in Ventrillo.

I tend to stay off the chats if possible. I hate getting on them and hearing the constant f-bomb or any cuss words period as I see no reason for that language at all.
