I use a G600. Mouse numpad is assigned for 1234567890+- and with 3rd mouse button pressed assigned for ctrl+ F1-F12
    why bother with ctrl + F1-12 ? Why not Ctrl + 1234567890-= ?

Also, how long did it take you to get fully "intimate" with your mouse, how long to honestly say "I got this, I use it like a baws" ?

Because ctrl+ F1-F12 is a combination I absolutely won't use on the keyboard. Since I'm pressing stuff on the mouse, it doesn't really matter what you assign it to as long as it doesn't interfere with keyboard shortcuts. (Ctrl+F1-F12 is the combination mapped to the mouse buttons when 3rd button is pressed, I don't press ctrl on the keyboard for it to be clear.)

It depends on the person how fast you learn new keybinds and the amount of time you spend praticing. Personally it took me maybe a few days to get comfortable with it and a few weeks to arrive at the general keybind layout I use for all classes.

I have had mine (Razer Naga thingey with 3x4 grid) a month or two and can't honestly say that yet But I'm pretty comfortable with it on Monk and it has really made a difference, and over that time my skill bar has gradually evolved to match what is easiest with the mouse.

I tend to only use the first 9 buttons in combat with Ctrl and Alt modifiers to get it up to 27 skills I have access to near instantly. I find the 0-= buttons need me to bend my thumb unnaturally (partially because I play with the right mouse button pressed more or less the entire time I'm in combat for fine camera control, checking around etc). It's more or less reflex now when hitting an action, and given the very fast pace of Monk, I think I would be much less effective without it.

Still need to work on getting my Black Mage and White Mage skill bars set up and learnt to the same degree

It took me about 2 weeks before I stopped accidentally hitting "5" instead of "8". And yea, I use 4 hotbars that are 1-12, cntrl+1-12, shift+ 1-12, and alt+1-12. The 3rd mouse button is mapped to cntrl, so the only time I ever use my left hand for an action is when I'm pressing shift or alt. All of my critical battle actions are on the first two bars (with the exception of a couple cross class moves that I keep on the shift bar).
