Odin unable to be Combo'd?

Just fought Odin -- was practically standing on top of him when he popped, so I was there for the entire fight. I didn't have issues seeing him or targeting him, and he stayed pretty much stationary for the entire FATE, but I was on PLD, and for whatever reason I couldn't get a Halone combo off for the life of me. Fast Blade would cause Savage Blade's icon to glow, and then I'd hit Savage Blade and... nothing. Abilities would go on cooldown, but Halone wouldn't glow, and if I tried using Halone anyway it received no combo bonus. Rinse, repeat, a couple hundred times in a row. I'd consult the battle log to see if Savage Blade even landed, or was registered as being used for that matter, but HAH, good luck with that. I also noticed that the only way I was able to make a dent in my TP was to spam Shield Lob -- otherwise I never seemed to fall below 900, and I had no TP buffs. As a result I ended up with a Silver, despite being on top of the boss, with him visibly targeted, spamming abilities from the moment he popped to the moment he died.

Is this normal? Like, is there some mechanic I don't know about that might have nullified all of my combos? Or is this a bug that I should be reporting?

It happens when there's a metric crap-ton of stuff going on. I think that it's because the game is too busy registering everyone else's attacks at the exact same time that it doesn't register yours. It happens to me almost every Odin or Behemoth FATE--I'll nail them with Fire-X and Blizzard-X but never see my Astral Fire or Umbral Ice states kick in. It's frustrating to say the least, especially when I finally manage to see one of them, only to have them disappear again.

Bad game netcode to be potentially but most likely not entirely fixed in 2.1.

I thought that was my problem, too, but normally when something misses you see in the flying text Fire 3 missed!. It just completely skips that step and I see nothing.

Yeah that's just the server being really laggy. They're said to be fixing these issues in 2.1.

Try being a healer, when your heals don't heal anyone though.

Try being a healer that casts raise on anyone during Odin. Did it yesterday and cast raise on 2 people at least two times each and neither of them ever got a raise notice.

most ppl used LB before he casted zantetsuken, because someone shouted to do... that's why it failed
