Question for Macbook/Bootcamp players - performance issues

    Hi all,

I have a PC for most of my gaming time, but a couple of days a week I'm away from home and I have a Macbook Pro (Sep 2012 model) running bootcamp to play the game.

During beta and a couple of weeks after launch, I had no problem playing on the lowest settings. It wasn't silky smooth but it was easily playable, I could dodge attacks just fine, etc.

Lately however, I've had some issues that make the game unplayable. Apparently I'm still getting 20-30 FPS which is fine, but the game slows down every 2-3 seconds then speeds back up to normal. The response time between me pressing forward to move and my character actually moving is about half a second to 1 second long. This never was an issue before and I could do end game dungeons and primal fights very comfortably.

Has something changed after a maintenance patch that effected lower end machines? I have updated my video driver to the latest available but that hasn't helped much, but I was wondering if there's any tricks I'm missing to help.

    Some info:

    Macbook Pro 2012 September edition
Bootcamp with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit
    Core i5 2.5Ghz
    8GB Ram
    Intel HD Graphics 4000 512mb

The in game settings are all the lowest possible, and everything is off. I have 5gb of free space left if that could be an issue?

    Many thanks.

Bootcamp is odd. I've noticed that it won't read the hardware settings right for whatever reason every now and then. You can try to repartition bootcamp and see if that clears the issue. You can also try to wineskin it (though with a 4000 512MB, I doubt it'll run). Also try to trash your bootcamp .plist and recreate it. Could be a corruption in bootcamp itself.

5 gig free should be fine. You can't be caching anywhere near that amount especially if you only use the partition for FFXIV. I found a pretty cool wrapper for FFXIV already pre made for wine on reddit but I can't for the life of me find it. I'll have to dig around on my MacBook soon. If I find it, I'll update my post.
